Trib vs. Gazzette

Post by WalkOn79 » Fri Nov 17, 2006 12:19 pm

A comparison of the two papers who claim to be state-wide this morning:

Gazzette: Labeled "Friday Sports Extra"

- 2 articles about Cat-Griz, or in this case, just Griz; one about Swagger and other about the Griz special teams, covering about a 1/2 page. Thats it!!

Tribune: Labeled "CAT-GRIZ Sports Extra"

- 6 seperate articles, 3 by Geise about the Griz and 3 by Mansch about the Cats.
- How the teams stack up, with all of the key stats.
- History of the rivalry
- Individual Stats
- 2-Deep depth chart
- Blurbs on two key players (Rolo and Murphy)
- Identified six impact players, (Force, Jefferson, Daly, Swogger, Bradshaw, Allen.)
- Head coaches at a glance
- Team scoring by quarter
- 2006 season results
- All of this covering 4 full pages of the sports section.

Can anyone defend the Gazette as "the" statewide newspaper?

Cat and Griz fans alike should write to Geise and Mansch, and thank them for continuing to provide the best, most balanced coverage of Bobcat and Grizzly sports in the State of Montana.

and the Chronicle had two articles, I am expecting a full magazine like pull-out for Gameday from the Chronicle. If they do the one page Game Day section I will be disapointed. It doesn't get bigger than this people.

The Gazette did have a nice article on Force yesterday. One of the Griz fans said it's biased against them in the comments section.

Thursday Chroinicle (Dumas) devoted front page story to how Swogger could have been a cat. In my opinion Dumas missed his taget market yet again! The article was a nice puff piece on Swogger but made me feel like we were sorry we didn't get him.....

I am Happy with Rolo and glad Swogger is wearing Moron tomorrow.

I need to post a retraction about Cat/Griz coverage. A buddy of mine showed me the 62 page insert in last Sunday's Gazette. I still stand by my argument that the Trib does a much better job covering CAt and Griz athletics, week in and week out.

But when you look through the insert from the Gagzette, it was just an updated reprint of last years insert with updated ads....

And again today, not much on the playoffs for both teams....It's pretty lame....
