OGDEN, Utah — Big Sky Conference commissioner Doug Fullerton has publicly reprimanded and suspended Portland State football player Kenneth Mackins for his actions in the Vikings’ 13-7 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday, Nov. 11.
A videotape review of Portland State’s game against Sacramento State revealed that Mackins punched a Hornets player. Mackins was penalized 15 yards by the official, but was not ejected from the game. Mackins, a junior wide receiver from Thousand Oaks, Calif., is being suspended one game for fighting.
If Portland State earns an at large bid to the Division I Football Championship first round, he will serve the suspension on Nov. 25. If Portland State does not receive a playoff bid, Mackins will sit out the first game of the 2007 season.
Mackins has 24 catches for 424 yards this season, with four touchdowns. He also returned a kick for a touchdown this season.
There was very little in the way of a passing game out of PSU when they were here so I don't know if this kid was very good or not but that's gotta suck to know if they make the playoffs they will be missing a player due to something stupid like that. Anybody see the play? Was it blatant or just a heat of the moment thing?

once again, big sky reffs make a very bad decision...could tossing him from the game have cost them a shot at the playoffs..

I was there. The kid should have been EJECTED then and there. He punched a Sac State defender in the junk after being tackled... Real classy, hey may have a spot on the Raider D-Line waiting for him...

Thanks Kadeezy (I'll overlook the Raiders comment

). As Hell's alluded to, I don't understand what the refs could have been thinking here. If they called a personal foul, they obviously saw it. Throwing a punch is an automatic ejection if I remember right, so why wouldn't he be gone right there?
