Brian Schweitzer is a joke

Brian Schweitzer:
MSU grad
Bandwagoner
He attended a Cat game last year and basked in the cheering of the crowd as he walked in front of the student section before the game. Won over a lot of love from Cat fans. Not me. Especially after watching the griz game yesterday. In an in-game interview, he says "I'm a griz fan every day of the year but one." That one day in reference to the Cat/griz game. Guess he has to bandwagon the griz because since everyone else in the state does, he better do the same to win the love of the voting masses. I am a Republican and I was beginning to like you, Schweitzer. Not anymore.

I gave him an earful at Cat-Griz last year too. And I actually voted for the guy.

Conrad did the same thing earlier in the year. He attended a game and spoke during the pregame show on the radio. His daughter is MSU alum, so in his own words "I tend to lean towards that other school, but cheer for both before blah blah blah" It's not a republican thing, not a democrat thing...it's a politician thing. You can't alienate half of Montana and expect to get voted county dog catcher.

I think Schweitzer could be in a difficult position. He's a Bobcat and a Democrat. And remember last year the bet he made on the EWU-MSU Governor's Cup game in Cheney. Since the Missoula area is overwhelmingly Democratic it would not make a whole lot of sense for a Democrat to alienate one (or two, including the Butte area) of his largest areas of support by not being somewhat pro-Grizzly. Now if I was running for governor, I couldn't bring myself to be a Grizzly fan, but politicians really have to walk some very fine lines in order to get votes. And he still roots for the Bobcats, especially during the big game. I'm not trying to be a Schweitzer apologist here and I don't really support either party, but I'm just trying to present some information.

What is he supposed to say? F*ck the Griz? The guy is cheering for two programs, one of which especially brings alot of positive attention to the state. Plus I mean come on look at population percentage, considering how much bigger UM's fan base is than msu's I would do the same thing.
If you vote on someone based on who they cheer for Saturdays you have other issues that need working out.

despite what he might lead you to believe, schweitzer is the ultimate politician. he will be a griz fan (and Cat fan, and Carroll fan, and Helena High fan) when it is convenient and he can get press. is it geasey (not trying to smack griz fans by using that term) to flip-flop for voters sake? of course, but who wouldn't in his position? especially when you love to see your face in the press. for that reason - who cares...

Whoever said it was just for voters? I cheer for the Cats for the most part during the season....I cheer for all the MONTANA teams.
I am shocked that you guys can't understand this concept....Maybe not.

No I see your point. I just don't get how you can distinguish between state pride and flipflopping -- essentially they are the same thing

nick -
i guess i'm saying is that yes indeed some folks are like you and i in that they like both teams, but definately have a favorite. while i'm sure that you'd agree there are others who are strictly on one side - both griz and Cats fans. nothing wrong with that, right?
to me, it just doesn't matter what schweitzer thinks or does because he is so political. he would absolutely nuts to offend a montana team one way or the other - as you have mentioned - regardless of who he really likes or pulls for. for that reason, his actions shouldn't mean anything to anyone other then he is doing what he should be. to me, who cares (my original point).
if you don't think politicians do what they do to get their name in the press and to appeal to voters - even going to games, then you haven't been around politics much (not trying to slam you), just not keen on the politics.
not trying to offend......

oh no i completely understand how the publicity issue works. judy martz was a press whore (simply stated). and i know brian loves the press especially after he received all the attention he did nationally last year. in the overall scheme of things his political career is pretty young and i can understand why he would seek so much. i'm with you -- who cares? i was just wondering why everyone's freaking out about it here.
also, i may be a democrat but i'm not THAT easily offended.

First of all, the griz can have him for the extra "one day" of the year. Secondly (and much more amusing in my book) was his quote about his dog not being in Missoula. He said his dog is a bobcat.
Now I know that Border Collies are generally considered pretty smart, but this one takes the cake! I bet he even refused to go to Missoula.

C'mon Horn. If your job depended entirely on what a group of people thought about you, would you purposely say something to anger at least half of them?! I'm suprised he wasn't even MORE diplomatic and say something along the lines of "I root for all Montana teams equally". He doesn't have to do that, of course, but that's what most politicians would say.

I agree. For the Gov to come out and support MSU during the Cat/Griz game is already going above and beyond what I would expect from any pol ... unless they are really dumb and/or have no interest in actually winning any elections.

My...how wrong they are when they say that our country's youth doesn't follow politics and current events closely enough. I'm glad to see that people base their choice in political candidates on such sound reasoning.

When I saw him on the sidelines in Griz clothing, I said MOTHER F******. But then he said he is a Griz fan every day but one, so he is a Cat fan first and a Griz fan second, I can take that.

He isn't running and he is on TV more than the guys who are. First The Colbert Report, then flipping through channels he was giving a big presentation on c-span, then the Griz game.
Anyways, I think a lot of people like the Griz when they aren't playing the Cats, and vice versa. I do
