Looks like Sauers did it again.

I see NAU was trying to make it a game vs the Griz until their coach crapped his pants yet again. They had the momentum for much of the second half until, late in the game, he decided to go for a 4th and 2 instead of kicking the game tying field goal from the 10. I'm sure the crowd was going nuts, Griz stuffed em then sat on the ball for a very close shave, 24-21.
Jerome Sauers is of questionable intelligence.

No doubt the lingering effects of having lived in Missoula for so long.

What are you talking about? NAU was never in position for a game tying field goal.

What game were you watching?

They had a chance to drive down the field and kick a field goal with 1 minute to go but I don't recall any other game tying field goal chance.

He won a national title on one of the better offenses of all time in 1-AA history.....maybe his team just sucks

Sorry, I was not able to watch the game, or listen since I'm in Cali right now. All I could do is try to follow along on egriz with my mobile internet. I apologize if I didn't properly visualize grizbacker1's interpretation of the game. It is all I had to go on.

I think it was the Griz he was talking about... and it was still a terrible coaching call. Hauck went for it on 4th and 2 when a field goal would have made it a6 point game. He also made a really dumb call on the onside attempt after they had just gone up by 14. Both of those calls could have easily come back to bite them had NAU not p*ssed down their legs.

I actaully liked both of the calls you disliked. The onside kick attempt was perfect, the ball just slipped through a backup wideouts hands, otherwise we would have had the ball right back w/tons of momentum.
I liked going for it on 4th instead of the field goal. If we don't pick up the 1st NAU is still buried DEEP in their own territory & they had not moved the ball all 4th quarter. If we get the field goal we have to kick off & risk having the kick taken to the house like the Portland St. game. Either way a TD beats us.

Hauck was stupid on that call. You take the points and make them score a TD to win the came. If NAU was able to drive the ball 40 yards, they could have tied the game with a long field goal and little remaining time for a Griz drive.

That's not quite true. NAU took over at their own 11 yard line. 40 yards would only get them to mid-field which is not in field goal range. 60 yards would have got them down to the UM 30 yard line which would still be a 47-yard field goal. There was 1:13 left and they had no time outs. NAU only managed 90 yards of offense in the entire second half and their longest pass all day was 13 yards. And finally, NAU is also the number 1 team in the conference in kickoff returns. Still think it was a bad call?

The onside kick was not only the correct call, it was also a thing of beauty. That was the best executed play I've seen in a long time. Capenter's kick was perfect, and it was WIDE open. If the reciever makes the play, he would have run for about 20 yards before an NAU player would have been near him. That was a GREAT coaching call.
The 4th down call could go either way. I would have kicked it, but you could certainly make the argument the other way. As others have pointed out, the chances for NAU to move the football in that little time from deep in Montana's territory certainly didn't look good. I think BH's thought process there was this: The only way NAU beats us with a TD; NAU's only real chance for a TD was on (or after) a long kick off return; and the only way they get a KO return is if we kick a FG.
Like most BH decisions, you certainly can't argue with the results.

What are you talking about? What positive results were there after those 2 calls? None. Both of them most likely made the game closer than it should have been. And if that onside-kick (when you're already up by 14) was such a good call, then why did Hauck admit that it was the wrong thing to do... and a mistake?

Where did he admit either was a mistake?

And just so we're clear...when you say "had NAU not p*ssed down their legs," what you mean is, "had the Griz defense not stuffed NAU's offense on that last drive, the same way they had been stuffing them all afternoon," right?

How did going for it make the game closer? It won the game for the Griz. I'd call that the ULTIMATE result, wouldn't you?
Haven't seen that BH called the onside kick a mistake. But assuming you're correct and he has, I'd bet he'd argue only the result was a mistake (and Montana was only up 7 at the time, not 14).

I'd say it's pretty obvious cattack didn't see the game. Seems like he's talking a little bit out his a$$.

On his show last night BH praised the execution of the play, just noted that the WR Mariani looked down to see if his feet were in-bounds & that might have caused him to miss the catch. He DID NOT call it a mistake.

Besides if Cat fans want to get into coaches decisions I could go on for days about the roll out punts.
