So this is my first time having satellite as opposed to cable, and I was all excited about upgrading the package so that it included all of the sports channels from around the country (which were listed in the package listing, of course). So I upgrade the package, and then settle in to watch NAU and EWU play tonight ... and I don't have the channels.
I call Dish Network, and I am told that they aren't allowed to provide regional channels except those available locally on cable, and he tells me that it is an FCC directive.
The FCC part I buy -- their whole point of existing as far as I can tell is to mess things up (being in the telecom industry, we see this even more than most). But I wanted to run this by everyone else. Is there any service that allows a person to see, say, Fox Sports NW even if one isn't in the NW? It seems really stupid, in this day and age, that we are limited to watching crappy Giants games on Fox Sports Bay Area when there is college football being broadcast in Portland.
Help!!!!
Regional sports channels on Dish Network

I don't have the sports package on DirecTV anymore, but when I did you got all of the Fox Sports regionals. With the basic Total Choice whatever package you get your region, but if you pay for the $12 or however much sports package you got them all. There was many times I was watching games on other channels that were outside my region.

Thanks, kmax ... after my third call of the night to them (at least two of which went to India, where I have a feeling the subtleties of the regional football games are not a part of their cultural lexicon), I think your info finally pointed me to ask the right question to get the channels I wanted. Now I just wait a few minutes and see if I really do get to see if NAU can continue to stick right with ASU for the rest of the game!

I'm DirecTV with the Sports Pack (I just activated the Sport Pack this afternoon) , but I carry it thru football season.
I'm flipping back and forth right now between 649 and 651.
EWU is getting their butts kicked big time(35-0) and it's not half time.
NAU and ASU are tied at the half. NAU could be a team to recon with- Murietta so far is looking like the QB he was a couple years ago.

I am still pissed that it took three calls to get somebody to point me to the right package (that I couldn't find on their website), but it's a happy ending.
