Brennan Marion fined $10,000
At first glance I thought this was not surprising, however, after looking at the stats, I’m questioning if he might just be right.
Team Number of Penalties Penalty Yards per Game Penalty Yards
Sacramento State 72 71.6 573
Idaho State 51 54.8 438
Cal Poly 50 58.0 464
Eastern Washington 47 54.9 439
Northern Arizona 45 49.0 392
Idaho 44 44.1 353
Montana State 44 41.4 331
Portland State 42 46.4 371
UC Davis 42 52.6 368
Montana 40 45.5 364
Weber State 37 43.3 346
Northern Colorado 35 34.8 278
72 is a far cry from the average, coach claimed they have had 8 touchdowns called back. That seems like a lot. Sure it’s easy to say this isn’t possible, however, with the previous NBA ref scandal, the newest NBA gambling scandal, it seems possible. Could refs be upset that their league and their career was called “JV”?
Not saying his claims are true, and there is likely no way to determine the truth, just something to think about.

Blaming your team's lack of discipline on poor officiating is the sign of bad leadership...
Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Re: Brennan Marion fined $10,000
When he says they had 8 touchdowns called back, implying that's egregious, what he's not acknowledging that they probably would not have scored most if not all of the touchdowns without said penalty....
They had a kick return for a TD against the Griz that got called back because of three pretty obvious penalties....

Under the Big Sky Conference instagram post on this a bunch of NAU band members are stating our players were being mean to them and deserve to be fined…

I have seen some FBS programs list Marion as a potential hire for next year. I really don’t get that. His team is loaded with talent but completely undisciplined. That is why his team is getting penalized.Run-the-ball wrote: ↑Wed Oct 29, 2025 8:39 pmAt first glance I thought this was not surprising, however, after looking at the stats, I’m questioning if he might just be right.

I am guessing the Glacier QB is seriously questioning his commitment to Sac State right now. What a train wreck.

Re: Brennan Marion fined $10,000
It's just crazy how much Marion doesn't understand the position he's in with the conference right now. Sac state is leaving, they've dragged the FCS (and Big Sky with it) name through the mud, and on top of that they aren't even good enough to be a playoff team which would give them some value to the conference in earning some of the revenue sharing. Sac State has put themselves in a position where they have literally no value to the conference, so of course the Big Sky is going to take every opportunity they can to fine them and milk every dollar they can get out of them before they leave. It's literally the only thing they're good for anymore. And then you hand the conference a reason to do so on a silver platter by trash talking the refs, just dumb on their part.
First and goal, clock winding down. That's Humphrey! It's TOUCHDOWN MONTANA STATE!

If that is true and even if its just to be a OC again I would bet he jumps at it. With only a few games scheduled next year and the future in absolute turmoil I would be looking for an escape door. Then watch that program, the portal isn't wide enough.Cataholic wrote: ↑Thu Oct 30, 2025 8:23 amI have seen some FBS programs list Marion as a potential hire for next year. I really don’t get that. Sac State, like the 2 Utah schools, will be begging to come back in a few years.

At least for football. The Big West is probably a better geographic fit for them for all the other sports since it will be entirely California schools beginning next year.

Hopefully the BSC doesn't roll over next time.
Fear of the future exits (UC Davis) seems to be the only argument for letting SUU back in and all that did was create a duplicate geographic footprint and an odd number of teams in the conference. I can see the administrators getting scared when Davis leaves that we'll only have one CA school and go begging Sac to come back.

Re: Brennan Marion fined $10,000
Sac is a huge joke at this point. Sure all the BSC teams what to throttle them after what has been said and done this year. BSC refs are not what I would call good, but I have never believed they are biased, just lacking in competency.
I made a point to watch all of their first game against SDSU, the first thing that came to mind in watching that game was the lack of discipline of the players. By going the NIL/transfer route so heavily it looks like they have players playing for themselves and the money not playing for a team and its culture.
I honestly think that SAC has some of the best athletes in the BSC, but leadership has completely failed them. SAC has never had a "good" culture, but now they have lost anything that they have had.
Good coaches don't even talk about the refs. I am paraphrasing something that Gregorack said "If the refs didn't call it, its not a penalty, if they did throw the flag then it is a penalty"
If SAC goes into next year with the same entitled attitude and leadership it may very well be the end of SAC football period.

This.
Idiot of a university “president,” even bigger idiot of a coach to place blame elsewhere. If there’s a problem with officiating, you pull the tape and send it to the league office for review.
I can’t wait to watch slack state get their a$$e$ kicked when they move up. Big mistake.

Re: Brennan Marion fined $10,000
I think criticism of the refs is very fair play. Just look at baseball that can pull stats on balls and strikes. Some of the umpires are absolutely horrible, and the stats show that. When the strike zone monitoring was introduced, 12% of calls were wrong, slowly they have improved. I understand no one wants the game to become robotic, however, I also don’t think they should get a free pass.
There was a game this year that the refs called back a touchdown and cost the team a win, they later apologize for screwing up the call. The team that lost still has the loss.
Certainly not everything that happens on the field can be blamed on the refs, but to clear them of all accountability doesn’t sit well.
