They'll have a completely different, new team. I heard they'll have almost FIFTY new players, including all the transfer players and recruits. Will they better or worse than last year? Time will tell. Personally I think it's a huge challenge, uphill battle to bring in fifty new players and have them all gel and become a complete, championship caliber team.

That many new players is going to be tough...
If they are a bunch of players following a newly hired coach (i.e. Indiana last season) I think they could compete, but this is a different circumstance.

I think they will be competitive. Their coach seems to be a fairly good judge of talent. He of a name that shall not be spoken, can coach. He just has a tough time being a human.

I think they did a Hail Mary with their legacy 37 jersey this year. Picking a sophomore who had 2 tackles last year seems a little odd. There must be a senior from Montana on the roster who is worthy of the honor.

nope.
Does he get to wear it til he graduates or is no longer eligible to play? I would think it should go to a senior with a year left.

Good question. That's kinda weird giving it to a sophomore. And pretty telling that there's not a Montana senior worthy to wear it. Yikes.

It’s never been about a Montana born senior being worthy of the honor, that was a Choate qualifier when he created your #41. Since 1983, 19 Griz (Clay Oven include) have worn the #37 jersey, only 7 were chosen as seniors and there are 4 players who wore it all 4 years of their Griz careers.

This has a list:

I think they only have 10 Montana born Seniors or Juniors, but I am surprised that some of those guys were passed over for a sophomore with two career tackles.

What are the odds he will quickly get passed over in Grisland by a portal transfer?

Definitely possible. Could be a strange situation for a legacy number to be second string.

The Griz #37 jersey is not the same as the MSU #41 jersey. When that tradition first began the #37 always went to a young player who would get to wear the jersey for several years, so they seem to be going back to this tradition somewhat with this year's pick. I do recall there being some pretty major controversy in Grizland a few years back when Bobby Hauck allegedly tried to take #37 away from the player who had it to give it to Robby Hauck instead. Not sure if that's something that actually happened or if it was just internet rumors.

How are you feeling about the Griz having almost fifty new faces this Fall?

If I were them I'd be quite happy about it given how disappointing their 2024 team was compared to pre-season expectations.

They didn't have any juniors and seniors from MT that are going to be that good. The talent they hope they have is freshman and sophomores. I think Oven made an impact on special teams last year and they are expecting for him to be in the rotation at LB. But hes not starting.
With all the transfers I'll be curious if they buy in all the way. Bobby needs players to buy in to his rule of law. They need to be indoctrinated from freshman on. You can get a couple transfers to be shown the ropes. But that many transfers means they can make their own culture. It'll be interesting.
