Wow, that signing is the textbook definition of "high risk, high reward". Pretty crazy that Sac has only managed two winning seasons in total as a Division 1 program. Their women's record can't be much better than that although they did at least get a Big Sky championship and NCAA appearance a couple years ago when Mark Campbell was briefly the head coach before moving to TCU.

The new President at CSUS seems to be on the right track -- he's going the celebrity route and trying to make Hornet sports a "thing" in the area, which is a hard lift. If he can get the local sports crowd to pay attention to their programs even a little bit (all anybody cares about in this region is pro sports), they just might pull off this FBS transition they are hoping for. They do finally have a real arena for basketball now (their legacy gym was similar to most MT Class B gyms except with concessions on a folding table in the entryway), so maybe they will turn a corner.
When college presidents embrace the idea that sports is their most effective marketing tool, good things seem to happen.
