"A Utah State University football player is trading in his future in the sport to serve his country, giving up another season of football to join the Navy SEALs.

Quarterback Levi Williams made his announcement through a podcast appearance, during which he expressed his love for the sport but knew his playing days were "going to come to an end," according to KSL Sports. His announcement comes only a few days after he helped the Aggies defeat the University of New Mexico, 44-41, and secure bowl eligibility.

“I just want to be in a spot where I can protect this great country where we get to play football with the freedom to do that," Williams said. "I think this is the best country in the world, so I’d like to keep it that way and protect it as long as I can.”

It’s going to be a hell of a day for him when he finds out you don’t join the SEAL’s, you try out. And the physical component is just one part. I didn’t read the article, but if he’s at least got an undergrad that would be a better path than just enlisting.

I kind of laughed when I read that too. Uh, it's a bit more complicated than just joining.
