Answer:
Tyler Emmert!
Carroll beat Central Washington in overtime today mostly due to Emmert. He stood in the pocket and dodged huge defensive ends and linebackers, threw balls just before being hit seemingly to open spaces only to have his receivers show up at the same time as the ball for big chunks of yardage. Central was bigger, faster, and more physical than Carroll, but the Saints played like the Champions they are. What a game. sort of like a Bobcat game. Huge defensive stands and tremendous last second plays ending in a surprise quick opener for a touchdown in the face of an all out blitz! I wonder if Emmert changed the play at the line of scrimmage?
We passed on this kid who's dad played for the Cats in the 60's! He's been the QB on 4 straight Championship teams dating back to High School!

I was at that game...great game!! Emmert is good...real good. But I think it's too much to say he's the best in the state when he plays NAIA. If you told me that he would look as good playing for the Cats or the Griz, I'd say show me. However, what a great game to watch!

If you read the article today, you'd see Emmert saying that he didn't have a great game and his coach said the same of him.
Let's see...He had 300 yards, three TDs and beat a team from a level up.... CW was in the playoffs a couple years ago and was ranked No. 1 in Div II at the start of last year - they lost that moniker after game one --- a loss to Emmert and CC.
When is the last time UM or MSU beat a decent team from a level up two straight years? No offense, to either school, but that answer is NEVER. Probably never will. I think UM beat either Oregon St or Oregon about 15 years ago, but whoever it was they stunk at the time.
This kid is too good to try to pass off as not being capable of ripping up the I-AA. You have to see him play. The only player I can think of that he reminds me of is Joe Montana.

I went to high school with him, and watched him play high shcool ball. I also have been to several Carroll games. He is a good QB, no questioning that. But I will have to agree with CTOWM, I cannot go so far as to say he's the best QB in Montana when he plays at, face it, the lowest college level of football (well maybe aside from the Frontier Conference). I would love to see him have a shot in 1-AA ball, but part of that amazing program at CC is the coach.

I'd side with HelCat on this one. Yes, it's NAIA, but he is extremely talented and would be at any level IMO. As a sophomore last year, he passed for over 4,000 yards! 38 touchdowns, 5 ints. They beat their opponents by an average of over 30 points. Carroll has the longest winning streak in college football, at any level. I think Emmert will have a shot at the NFL.

Celtic Cat: Your post makes no sense in that you say Emmert plays in the lowest level (which isn't true...NCAA Div III is considered by most to be lower), then say the Frontier (which CC/Emmert is in) is lower. I don't get it.
My point is that you have to wonder. Dickenson went unnoticed, too. Walked on at UM, then you know the rest. As for Emmert, he passed on walking on and partials to go to his hometown school (an option DD didn't have). Emmert and DD practically mirror each other. Both put together back-to-back unbeaten title teams in AA high school. Both are posting prolific numbers in college.
The obvious is that it's difficult to compare CC to the Big Sky, but it's also difficult to overlook this guys numbers and it's not like he just puts them up at CC. From what I understand he's been doing this since Small Fry Football in the fifth grade. Sounds like DD... a natural born QB.

Folks in Washington expect(ed) CWU to have a good team this year. At least as good as the one who beat up on the Bobcats at home coming two years ago. That win tells me a whole bunch about the Saints character, which usually starts at the top.

Eh, I didn't realize that CC was in the Frontier conference. I don't really pay attention to much college ball cept the Big Sky.

I'd have to agree, by using bobcat logic:
He beat a team that is better (homecomng 2002) than the bobcat's, who won the bigsky conf.,by beating the Griz, hence he is a far better QB than Koolaid, or Oaks for that matter.
If You use all the reasons that Koolaid is great and measure Emmert with the same yard stick, he is without a doubt the best QB in Montana.
"He beat a team that was better" ... no HE didn't beat anyone, the BOBCATS as a TEAM did. Hence, MSU is a better TEAM than Griz. The BOBCATS win as a team and they lose as a team. Your right though ... Lulay is a COOL CAT!

Also, doesn't Carrol still play at Idaho State University this year? I think I saw that on their schedule. That will be a good measuring stick to see how well he would play in the Big Sky I would think.

That game would have been this weekend. ISU bought out CC for a payday game against San Diego St. I think Carroll was paid something in the neighborhood of $20,000 to NOT play ISU.
ISU would have won pretty easily, but I think Carroll could have given them a game for a while. Carroll could have scored on ISU, but no way would have stopped them defensively.

Not anymore, it was scheduled at one time, but ISU backed out. I believe they dropped Carrol so that they could play I-A San Diego State.
Oops, too slow and Cat Pride had better info than me anyway.

Darn, that would have been a good game to follow and see how he did. I bet ISU started thinking about that game more and more and thought risk was too high

If ISU thought that game too risky, then I am glad we have the Bungles on our schedule.
Those wimps play a Frontier Conference team every year. Tech, Western, almost Carroll this year.

After watching the Carroll game, based solely on their size, and the db's speed, Carroll probably would've gotten thumped. Don't get me wrong, Carroll is very good but I think a good BSC school would pound them. Of course, I'm assuming ISU is a good BSC team.

probably just as good of a team as North Dakota State was last year.
