Griz BB scrimage ( hide the donuts )

Post by mslacat » Thu Oct 27, 2005 8:41 am

The Griz scrimaged last night, and there is a report in the Missoulain (see below) Please note the side issue about Strait being 40lbs heavier. Forget the "how did he put the weight on" issue for a second. I would like to know how healthy it is for a man of 6-8 to put that much weight on durring the off season. I had heard Strait was maybe 25 lbs heavier but 40 lbs  . Makes you wonder if he is a clam fart away from a stress fracture, foot/ankle injury or ACL blow out. Every thing that I have read says you can not put that much weight on a super tall (6-6 plus) young man that quickly and not expect problems, especially one that is running and jumping at a college basketball level. All I have to say is that if I was playing the Griz tomorrow I would make them run and run and run and make their big men (the few they have left) prove they can keep up with me.

Maroon outscores silver in Griz scrum
By BILL SCHWANKE of The Missoulian

Senior guard Kevin Criswell - splitting time between the two teams - totaled 27 points as the Maroon downed the Silver 83-74 in the Montana Grizzlies' first public intrasquad scrimmage of the 2005-2006 season. Coaches broke the scrimmage into four quarters and actually reset the score several times to set up specific situations.

Sophomore Matt Martin also totaled 27, hitting 9 of 15 shots including 6 of 11 from beyond the arc. Fellow sophomore Andrew Strait - sporting 40 more pounds than last year - hit 10 of 15 from the floor on his way to 21 points, all for the Maroon.

Junior Matt Dlouhy poured in 15 and hauled in 11 rebounds. Also hitting double figures were junior transfer Stuart Mayes and senior Virgil Mathews with 12 apiece. Freshman Austin Swift split time between the two teams and totaled 11.

The Grizzlies open the season November 4 with a home exhibition game against the University of Great Falls.
