Griz Completely Overhauling the Roster

They just picked up a drop down corner which takes them to FORTY FIVE new players coming into the system in 2016, and rumors are they aren't done yet.

Has that ever been done in the history of college football, and how is that even possible?

How many more players will they drop after their spring practices? That is a lot of new faces, almost like an expansion team...wonder if they will have problems gelling...

Boy, you really have to think chemistry would at least be a concern with half of the roster being new faces.

How does that much turnover affect APR? Seems like Bill Fritt is running out of players from last season. That's a lot of players to bring in without actually recruiting them for a year and getting to know them and their personalities.

I wonder if they will have a single former Montana HS player on a full scholarship by the end of next year.

I think they'll have a few left. Sandry, Epperly, and maybe a hand full of others, but not many.

How could you of all people forget about the Billings West QB?

I'm fairly certain there's a limit of 30 new players receiving any type of aide per academic year... Not sure what Stitty is doing is very copacetic.

Hope this doesn't get Bob'S titt in the wringer! You have to expect this sort of thing when you have a bunch of DII amateurs running the show. They're not used to handing out scholarships.

I said next year this time. What was the name of the hotshot QB from Oregon who Biff Stitt ran after after the first of the year? Willy Pflug or something like that?
According to Biff Montana HS players should just be happy to get invited to play at UM, and should pitch in their fair share so the out of state players can have full scholarships.
An interesting approach to recruiting in a very insular state, to say the least. They should just be happy that the Colorado Coaching Staff even recruits them.

That is an eye-popping number, but it could also mean that Stitt knows exactly what kind of players he needs and isn't afraid of making these moves. It's probably better to just clean house in one fell swoop than it is to peck away at it. The big unknown is how difficult it will be to get them all on the same page quickly. How many are starters?

It seems almost impossible to think you can bring in 45 new players since last January, have them mesh with existing players, and keep everybody on the same page when playing time becomes an issue. It's an interesting social experiment, to say the least, and pretty much torches Stilt's claim that it's his system, and not the players, that are the #1 priority. If it's the system, why the massive roster overhaul?

Give him enough rope, and he'll hang himself. Or, maybe, win it all. He is doing it HIS way, no doubt. Three year contract, two seasons remaining. Apparently going for it all. 8-5 last year, two rounds into the playoffs. If he doesn't get to the NC game this year, it would be considered a bad year, by comparison to previous coaches. He didn't take over a ****** program and have to start over. Glenn got to the NC in year one, NC the next year. Hauck's presence in NC games is well known. Pflugrad went from crap in year one, to the semi's in his second year. Delaney....UGH! It is Stitt's future in his own hands for good or bad. Riverboat gambler.

Very innovative way to build a roster.

From this article:
http://www.active.com/football/articles ... holarships
How Many Schools: There are 125 schools competing in the FCS (formerly Division I-AA) in 2008. This includes all of the Ivy League schools and FCS powers like Appalachian State, Georgia Southern and Northern Iowa.
Scholarship Count: FCS schools have 63 scholarships to be distributed, and up to 30 incoming players each year can be given aid.
Scholarship Breakdown: Scholarships at FCS schools can be full or partial rides. The 63 grants can be divided up in any way, but no more than 85 players can be put on scholarship.
I have no idea if the data is current, I don't see a date stamp on the webpage, but the comments go back to December 2013.

I'll speculate and wonder if one of the reasons some surprising players left the program is because they'd no longer be on a full scholarship. Kind of a D-II approach where everyone gets some grants and such but money is distributed throughout the roster of out of state kids primarily.

Didn't Sam Huston do a team make over last year or year before. Believe they started slowly but finished strong.

I hear they only have six in state players getting money on offense. If they brought in 45, then 15 would have to be walk ons if that rule is still in place.

A ton of their new players were convinced to be preferred walk-ons or receive little aid. Which leads to believe their will be a logjam in the next two-three years when those players start contributing and expect a scholarship.
