Found over on that other site.

50 pounds in just under 5 months. Gotta be all good, lean muscle mass, right?

Ha ha... this should be good. Really do want to see what gtapp says about this. Putting on 1\5 your body weight in 5 months. There are three options here:

It's basically all fat so therefore not helping anything.
Massive amounts of steroids, in which case I don't even know if that weight gain is possible.
He's lying.

50 pounds in 5 months is quite attainable. MSU'S very own Rocky Gullickson used to preach to basketball camp attendees how he put on 30 pounds in 30 days by lifting hard and consuming 1 pound of red meat, 1 gallon of milk, 1 loaf of bread and a dozen eggs each day.

I don't either....it's just been too long since we've had a good weight gain debate, and they opened up the door. And I'd rather use their guys than our guys.

Offensive lineman is 298 lbs. - "He's too light."
Offensive lineman is 301 lbs. - "What a monster!"

He's a good kid and a workaholic. Has plenty of fire. No need to fuel and fan it.

He's the one trying to make drama out of one comment.

Sometimes one is all it takes. And to be fair, you know as well as I it was just a suggested scenario, a slight implication (not a flat out lie or even spreading of a rumor) but look at it from his point of view. He made a goal and sacrificed to achieve that. Kind of slap in the face (in his opinion) that anyone would suggest that. Again, great kid. I can't fault him for barking back a little and I hope your players would do the same. Everyone handles stuff differently I guess.

Yes they do. Some even know the difference between fan and fans.

People/players can put on tons of weight. The issue was/is not the weight. It is the kind of weight. As an O-lineman the goals may be different than say a D-lineman and for sure different than a LB or safety. When you put on a lot of weight in a relatively short amount of time that weight will be primarily fat and water. The amount of muscle someone can gain is limited especially if PED's are no included. Sighting my reference I made in the post I had back last fall the U of Wisconsin strength coach said the most weight any of his lineman put on in one year was 23 lbs and they to pull most of that off of him because he became too slow. Now if a kid is 6'7" and weighs only 240 he can obviously put on a lot of weight and not look fat and maybe not slow down that much. Many years at MSu the O-lineman average weight has gone down. This has also happens at the LB or DL positions. Again sighting my post last fall; the goal is constructive weight gain. The word constructive means different things based on each individual and each position. 50 lbs in one year or 6 months is a one in 1000+ player development. Now we will have to see how that weight helps him or hurts him.

It may not be fair, but if an athlete gains 50 pounds in five months people will naturally wonder if steroids might be the reason. The person that mentioned steroids didn't say he was on steroids, he said he was wondering what gtapp would say and gave three options that he thought gtapp would come up with and one was steroids. Another asked how the NCAA tests for roids, which also isn't saying he's on roids.

My main concern for Jackson isn't how he gained so much weight, but why he's going on Twitter. I honestly hope he's just role-playing and isn't in a constant state of seeking attention.

I really didn't mean for this thread to be a debate on Jackson himself. I'm sure he's a hard working kid and happy he hit a personal goal. Good for him to be proud of it! I really don't care if he puts on maroon clothes in the morning. There are good hardworking kids in all programs, and I respect that. But this was meant to be light-hearted. I have full faith that gtapp knows his stuff, it is just fun to see the debate on size each off season.

18/19 year old kids grow. Big tall ones that suddenly get introduced to a college level nutrition/weight program will see big gains. No reason to insinuate that anything else shady is going on.

So Thayne, if you are reading this (since it appears you already have been), keep working hard and do all you can to thump on the Cats. I wouldn't expect anything less and I'm sure the Cats are doing all they can to thump on you and the griz. I wouldn't want it any other way.

100%, great post. Regarding my post, I certainly wasn't accusing this kid of being a roid monkey and haven't seen anyone else saying that either. As you state, this was more of a generic discussion to open back up the weight gain can of worms with gtapp. In fact if someone thinks my three option scenario above means that I think this kid is doing steroids... you're seriously mistaken. If I had to venture a guess I would say the most likely answers in order, are 1: non muscle weight Gain, 2: He's lying, or 3: Steroids. I say this because gtapp has clearly explained many, many times that it's basically impossible for a human being to add 50 pounds of muscle in 5 months and I think this would apply even with steroids.

Legs face it. At least 75% of egriz is wondering if it's PED'S. They won't voice it and they don't care even if he was.

And the temper he displayed on twitter smacks of roid rage. Thayne. If you're reading this I'm just kidding buddy.
