WCC coaching vacancies
http://www.oregonlive.com/pilots/index. ... _bask.html
This article is really interesting. First off it's about the Portland Pilots firing their head coach. It also notes that Santa Clara, Pacific, and San Francisco are looking for new coaches. Then there's the bit about Mark Few at Gonzaga chastising league members for not pulling their weight. The WCC only got one team in the tournament this year-Gonzaga. They're usually a 2 or 3 bid league.
In the comments someone said that Portland's coach makes 422K! I guess when you don't have a football team you can pay that, but wow. Portland doesn't draw any better than MSU does in men's basketball.
One name mentioned for the Portland job is Ken Bone, who took Portland State to two NCAA tourneys. He got fired at Washington State and is now an assistant at Montana.
I wonder if Montana's Travis DeCuire will be in the mix-especially for one of those Bay Area jobs. He's a west coast guy and spend 6 seasons at Cal.
Any other Big Sky coaches being courted? What does Rahe make at Weber?

Rahe makes total compensation of roughly $400,000. That is $80,000 more than the president of Weber State and the highest in the league. Of note, Brian Jones (UND) is the lowest paid coach in the league at around $90,000.

I thought I should point out Portland is a Methodist School as are Duke, Syracuse, Northwestern and of course Southern Methodist. San Diego is also one of the 26 Methodist colleges in the U.S. so one can only assume they're in a much better place financially.BelgradeBobcat wrote:http://www.oregonlive.com/pilots/index. ... _bask.html

Just a quick note that both University of Portland and University of San Diego are both Catholic schoolsCat Grad wrote:I thought I should point out Portland is a Methodist School as are Duke, Syracuse, Northwestern and of course Southern Methodist. And I stand corrected on the religious affiliation. As a Catholic institution, they ought to be paying their coaches much, much more than that! Especially their soccer coaches.WeedKillinCat wrote:Just a quick note that both University of Portland and University of San Diego are both Catholic schoolsCat Grad wrote:I thought I should point out Portland is a Methodist School as are Duke, Syracuse, Northwestern and of course Southern Methodist. I wonder if EWU's coach Hayford will be in the mix for a WCC job. Wouldn't be surprised. His overseas recruiting connections will be attractive. That league gets a lot of foreigners.

I think Hayford would be a great selection for the WCC. He appears to be the only Big Sky coach out of five who will win a postseason game this year. ](./images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif)

And he just beat a WCC team with Big Sky players. Imagine what he could do with WCC players!oedipuss wrote:I think Hayford would be a great selection for the WCC. He appears to be the only Big Sky coach out of five who will win a postseason game this year.

Obviously you can't read too much into the results of a single game, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that the 6th place team from the BSC beat the 4th place team from the WCC.BelgradeBobcat wrote:And he just beat a WCC team with Big Sky players.
