Quite a few similarities. Both teams only returned four players for their season openers at um. ASU returned two DL, one LB and one DB. NDSU returned the same, 2 DL, 1LB, 1 DB. Both had just two seniors starting. Both lost their defensive conference MVP. Both lost to um.

ASU lost 30-6. NDSU lost 38-35.
ASU gave up 497 yards on 75 plays. NDSU allowed 544 on 92 plays.
NDSU graduated three all Americans the previous year. ASU graduated one AA.
NDSU graduated four first team all conference the previous year. ASU graduated three.

ASU finished the year 4-8, but won three of their final four vs FCS teams.
NDSU is 0-1.

Side note: NDSU's offense rolled to a 61-12 win over the defense in their spring scrum. Wentz was only in for one drive.

NDSU will go no worse than 8-3 this year.

They don't play Illinois State this year. Hard to say how good their conference is this year. Hard to say how much their D will improve and how fast it will improve. We'll definitely find out.

You are beside yourself that Montana won that game and have the lookings of being a good football team :)
The dissapoinment you must have had when Counts scored on the last play.

Actually I would've thought the same of both teams regardless of counts' TD.

It could also be that um just missed in the red zone and should've won much more comfortably. Could be that NDSU just can't defend that type of offense. They had trouble with Coastal Carolina.

I'm just pointing out that um fans overvalued their win over ASU and may be doing the same here.
