Just saw this on twitter. No details on just what happened or if its even serious, but it wIll be interesting to see how Stitt handles his first public disciplinary issue.

Well that's wishful thinking if you're a Griz fan. Interesting to see how Stitt handles this. An arrest is an arrest, doesn't look good on the front page. Same petty crap other kids their age are doing and getting arrested for, they just need to make a choice. Be loyal to the team and stay out of trouble or go be a normal kid, get in a little trouble and not have to worry about it making the front page.

Looks like minor stuff, extra stairs and wind sprints.

This is so small. I'm like really? How is this even news?

I think this will be more of a test for Stitt than might appear on first glance. Neither of this incidents are a huge deal in the overall scheme of things. However, both are worthy of some disciplinary measures, but Stitt will be under scrutiny to see what he sees as appropriate for these incidents. Whatever he does, he'll have detractors claiming he was too hard or too lenient. I say some extra stuff as suggested laps or stairs, and not even much public comment. That won't be enough for some people though.

Isn't this outlined by athletics code of conduct and handed down by dept? I dont think this is in stitts hands.

Given the very recent history of a program that was out of control in terms of off the field behavior and a lack of discipline, this seems to be a big test for whether or not Stitt wants to let things slide as in the pre-Delaney days, or if getting arrested and booked is something that has no meaningful punishment. Players run gassers all the time, so the "run them until they puke" approach is not only redundant, but can also negatively affect a player's conditioning.
I'm guessing they will sit for a half, which seems fine given these are minor crimes. Sounds like Gamboa must have been drunk, which would concern me as a coach. A senior leader out partying a week before fall camp, and with a new head coach?

That's a good point. I don't know, either.

Disagree. Anytime players ger arrested it is definitely newsworthy. Yes these things could turn out to be minor but any time you get the cuffs slapped on you it's pretty serious. At this point I don't think we even know enough about what the charges are to make a determination that it's "not a big deal".
If Dakota Prukop gets arrested tonight, would it not be that big of a deal?

Agree. Not that I want any 20ish year old in trouble. Even if they are an opponent. Will be interesting to see why the arrests and how it impacts their first home game.

It isn't, there's a review panel that has a guideline for punishments. I'm not 100% sure but I don't even think Stitt is on the panel, as is our AD and one other person in athletics. There's also someone on behalf of the president or dean of students and a few faculty members. They'll hand out the punishment. They've got a guideline for what "tier" of offense it is, 3, 2, or 1. Tier 3 is probably where both of these fall which is public apology and missing some team activities. Tier 2 invokes missing game time (someone on egriz said at least 10% of the regular season) and I assume tier 1 is getting kicked off the team.
They set this up the year after Pflu was fired in the wake of his Roger Goodell-like consistency with punishments.

I believe BW is correct on his assessment on this. However Stitt will provide reminders of what happens when players decide to get they're name in the paper. Truely a frustrating situation even if they seem to be minor infractions.

Agree, its incredibly frustrating when you're fighting a negative stereotype - like UM or their football program in general has with some in Missoula - and people on your team continue to do things to reinforce that stereotype.

This isn't good for anyone involved. The players, the new coaching staff, the team, the University, etc.
But let's not blow it out of proportion.. As they say, "Stitt Happens".

Finally have details on one, its for fighting. I'd guess a one-game suspension.

Hmmm. With Gamboa it's just the roids talking.
Kose fails the IQ test.

Good for um. Looks like they're figuring it out. Five years ago he'd be suspended for one quarter of a game that they weren't going to lose anyway wherever it might be on the schedule. They're going to find that this method works in the long run. It's an entirely different atmosphere in their front offices.

I thought internal punishment would be good. I'm actually glad that they stepped up and made it count.
