Portland State 2015 Schedule
I was looking for potential Bobcat games I might attend and looked at the PSU schedule. I understand this program is in some trouble on several levels, not the least of which is people wanting to see them play, and based on their schedule, don't see how they can improve much. They open in Pullman against the Cougars, who feel they will be pretty good. Then to Pocatello...rough. Home against Western Oregon, no softy who PSU barely beat last year, 45-38. After UND at home, they go to Denton, Texas to play North Texas. NT was 9-4 in '13, but forgot how to play defense last year, going 4-8, but still, way to much for PSU. Then the Bobcats in Portland, off to Cal Poly, back home for the griz and finally a chance....Northern Colorado...but in Greeley. They are home again for Southern Utah and finish in Cheney (ouch).

Wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see the Viks hang it up after this season. They are now required by the University to be fully self sustaining, That's not going to happen renting out a 30K soccer stadium and "packing" it with 900 people.Mr Lisle wrote:I was looking for potential Bobcat games I might attend and looked at the PSU schedule. I think it's a farewell tour. I think they will fold because if um'ers or us play there we outdraw them.Mr Lisle wrote:I was looking for potential Bobcat games I might attend and looked at the PSU schedule. I see your point, but what 30k soccer stadium are you referring to? Providence Park is just over 20 I believe.luckyirishguy25 wrote:Wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see the Viks hang it up after this season. Re: Portland State 2015 Schedule
Depending on your source, capacity for the Portland Timbers is 20,000 or 20,323, or 20,438, or 22,000 or 23,000. I expect the Bobcat game to draw around 8,000. The griz somewhere around the same number, Western Oregon 3,500, North Dakota State and Southern Utah + or - 850. That Bobcat/griz bubble could make their average attendance around 5,300. In 2014 they averaged 4,583 and out drew No. Colorado (4,207) and So. Utah (3,261). So the positive "spin" on the 2015 season, despite the possible 1-3 home record, is they actually increased attendance by 15%!geogfather wrote:I see your point, but what 30k soccer stadium are you referring to? I was told by a timbers fanatic they can pack almost 30k in there, I'm guessing he was exaggerating or just didn't know.geogfather wrote:I see your point, but what 30k soccer stadium are you referring to? I can see 30K being jammed in there. But I'm wondering if stadiums have capacity codes like restaurants and theaters. It's a life safety issue.luckyirishguy25 wrote:I was told by a timbers fanatic they can pack almost 30k in there, I'm guessing he was exaggerating or just didn't know.geogfather wrote:I see your point, but what 30k soccer stadium are you referring to? Re: Portland State 2015 Schedule
Don't know if this was by design or accidental. Clearly history shows the Bobcats and griz are by far PSU's biggest draw and will certainly be again this year when the CATS arrive in Portland on October 17 followed by the griz on October 31.
Interestingly (probably only to me) the Ducks are nowhere around either weekend. They are in Seattle on the 17th and have no game on the 31st. Oregon State plays in Pullman on the 17th and in Salt Lake on the 31st. On those two weekends the Vikings are the only game in town! I know the other guys are on TV, but if ever PSU has a chance to shake the echo's out of the stadium it should be this year.
