Got this idea from the Coach K topic.
A. How many coaches can we come up with who are Montana natives (I'm defining as "born in Montana") and currently coaching NCAA D1 any sport (FCS and FBS for football), NFL football, NBA basketball, NHL hockey or are an athletic administrator in any of those leagues/divisions.
B. How many former coach/administrators can we name.
It would be good if we can name the town in Montana they came from.
Can only name a person once. So Bobcat assistant and head coach, Washington State head coach, Fresno State head coach-twice, Oakland Raider assistant, St. Louis Cardinal assistant and Butte native Jim Sweeney can only show up once.

Pokey Allen and Jim McElwaine both from Missoula. Pokey of Boise State and Mac at Florida

Phil Jackson born in Deer Lodge

Do you want to count the Petrinos?

Mike Lewis from Missoula Duke and then Indiana (I think it was Indiana)

Okay. I'm still not certain whether Lewis was the actual coach after he finished his playing career at Duke and in the NBA or just a temporary coach.

Was Mike or Jerry Kramer born in Jordan before all the Kramers moved to the Palouse?

If you're going to count the Petrinos, that's actually seven...and if you throw in Sonny Lubick, that would be eight. Another Butte guy.

Another Butte individual. He began his collegiate coaching career at MSU and finished his career at Utah State. Mick Dennehey.

I know you're looking for current coaches, but Big Sandy native Hal Sherbeck passed away last year, he left quite a coaching legacy.

He was one of six individuals inducted into Fullerton College's first Hall of Fame class last year, and the only one representing athletics.

He won 3 national championships as a football coach, and when he retired from coaching he was the winning-est JC coach in history

Over 500 of his players went on to either professional football or professional coaching

I have to think this tribute to him represents everything that's right about Montanans:

"Coach Sherbeck’s accomplishments at Fullerton College are now legendary. At the heart of his coaching philosophy was showing support and caring of, and love for, every last one of his players. This nurturing spirit wound up creating a virtual following among the hundreds of young athletes who went through the football program at Fullerton College and whose lives were transformed by it. In tribute to the man and his impact, in the spring of 1992, FC’s athletic field was renamed Sherbeck Field, while a statue of him is being unveiled in 2013 to coincide with the school’s centennial."

Cliff Hysell from Helena. Third winningest coach in MSU history.

Rob Spear, AD at Idaho and Bill Cords, AD at UTEP and Marquette University (recently retired). Both are from Butte. Cords was a Bobcat tight end who was an assistant coach for Sweeney at Washington State before going into administration

John Gibbons, manager of the Toronto Blue Jays is from Great Falls

Mick Delaney, former griz HC also from Butte. He, like Dennehey, was also a Bobcat assistant

We are up to around 18.

Go ahead and say it. We all know how important Butte has always been to the overall landscape of athletics in general and football specifically. Another great topic is one that closely examines how many coaches were mentored by Butte coaches and athletic ditectors. Mind boggling to list all these folks in the heart of the South unless they are an old coach.

My memory may be fuzzy in my old age, but aren't the Haucks from Big Timber? Nonetheless, Montana born....

George "Jiggs" Dahlberg AD and winningest basketball coach in um history. They named the arena after him. Butte.
