Big Play VA is transferring

Post by LIBBYCAT » Mon Feb 09, 2015 1:13 pm

Vernon Adams announced via Twitter and Instagram this morning, he's going to join Oregon. Should shape up as an interesting QB battle as he squares off with two four stars and a junior who was Mariota's back up this year. Good luck and God Bless.

Things just got real in Cheney.

Wonder when the last Big Sky QB transferred up?

They surely did, and I would have to think we'd say the same thing about things getting real for the rest of the big sky conference also huh? Not that anybody's afraid of EWU, but they were certainly going to be the undisputed favorites to win the league again, now there has to be at least some question about that status. We'll see how they replace him, if they bring in a drop-down to compete with their guys, etc, but big news for the entire conference I'd say!

Right after Weber State's Jamie Martin won the Payton, they had a kid named Otten who left and had a pretty good collegiate career at the DI level. Early 90s?

No offense to "Griz Nation" but we arguably just became the favorite to win the conference with this news.

I mentioned that over there. They liked it

I really think if he stayed at EWU, he would have just as good of chance going into the NFL if not better then transferring to Oregon. If he becomes sub-par at Oregon, doesn't that hurt his draft stock? He is one of the best QB's the Big Sky has seen in a while. This leave's a huge ? for EWU, but they have great athletes on Offense so I would guess they'll be alright. It will be interesting to see how he does, I wish him all the luck in the world. No more big play VA, huge sigh of relief all across the Big Sky.

From ugly turf to a different uni each week. Not sure it helps his NFL chances or not. He was a big fish in the FCS pond. Now?

Autzen > The abomination known as the "inferno"

I don't blame the kid for going to greener pastures. But I don't think this will help his draft stock.

I'll bet Jamie Marshall is elated right now.

Remind me who EWU plays in week one. Oh yeah... Oregon.

I know their backup QB played fairly well last season for the most part, but they definitely weren't the same team when they had to play without him. I'm quite sure they 'wouldn't have lost to NAU, if VA had played in that game, and that likely cost them a top 2 seed in the playoffs. I still expect them to be very good, but I agree that they're no longer an overwhelming favorite to win the BSC again, which they would have been with VA at the helm.

If he ends up starting for UO (which will be one of the better teams in the country again), how could it not help his draft stock?

As we all know, being a standout QB at the FCS level isn't exactly a shoo-in for a draft slot. In fact, it's quite rare to get drafted as a QB from the FCS level.

Whether he says it or not, you have to believe he is doing this because it will help his draft stock. Now Joe Flacco played for Delaware and still got drafted in the first round so if you are good, you are good. But VA is a competitor and he wants to see how he stands up against FBS schools every week. If he succeeds, he will be a 1st-2nd round talent.

I think VAJ will do just fine there. Two of his bigger games came against PAC-12 opponents (OSU, UW).

Yeah, his previous 3 season's are all on tape and it is some damn good tape at that. The NFL scouts should have no doubt what he can do based off that. If he actually plays at Oregon that will help him even more I think so I don't think this will hurt his draft stock.

Josh Heupel???? He played for Weber in 1997. Went to a JC in 98, then played at Oklahoma 99-00.

The FCS QBs who move on to The League are typically big guys with size and cannons for an arm (Flacco, Romo, Garrapolo)....and apparently have last names that end in "o" :)

Romo is 6'2 230 lbs
Flacco 6'6 245 lbs
Garappolo 6'2 226 lbs

Oh can't forget Steve McNair on this list, too...6'3 230 lbs. his name didn't end in "o" so I had to think twice.

I think this is why there is a lot of buzz around NDSU QB1 Carson Wentz (6'5 222 lbs). Now Vernon Adams is pushing it at 5'11 maybe 190 lbs (there's no way he is 6'0 200 as the roster claims). This is the exact reason I think Vernon Adams HAS to make the jump to Oregon. The league will want to see if Adams (with his size and stature) has the ability to play week in and week out with the big boys.....not just a game or two here or there.

This will be Adams best shot at proving he can hold his own with the best competition available to him. If he can excel at this level he's got a great chance of the NFL. If he stayed at Eastern and broke all the records and won the Walter Payton award, his chances were still not as good as they are making this jump and proving himself.

I'm thinking of Brad Otten. He transferred to Southern Cal.

I don't think he will start for the Ducks. PAC12 is a whole new world compared to the BSC.

Here's a stupid question:
Let's say he gets to Oregon, goes through summer and then Fall Camp in August and it looks like he's not going to start. Can he drop back down and play right away?

EWU with VA beat Oregon State and came very close against the Huskies. He will have even better talent around him at OU. I don't see it being too big for him at all.
