NDSU-Illinois State

Post by Cat Grad » Sat Jan 10, 2015 9:52 am

Can't wait to watch this game! Doing my morning pots of coffee and reading various and assorted online newspapers, I thought I'd share a couple.

http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnf ... ?id=791468

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Dako ... n_football

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montana_St ... s_football

Just for kicks, I went into the history of our schools as yesterday in a different thread I reminisced about what MSUs athletic department was when I was a kid in the 50s and 60s and the football team into the 70s and can only think of this: WTF happened? Anyway, I kind of hope NDSU gets four in a row because of the schools in our conference and one I hate to refer to as a school in our own state that kept them out of our conference when they "moved up" to 1-AA but on the other hand it gets to me listening to my NoDak relatives!

The game should be a good one.

This looks like it could be a great game. Probably should not be surprised but am very impressed with Illinois St.
NDSTATE just scored.....10-7 Bison.

Anybody guess what these two teams do really well that the CATS don't do??

WRAP UP WHEN THEY TACKLE

Two excellent tackling teams. I'd be very curious to go back through our games and see how many extra yards we gave up after initial contact. Too many times, our guys go for the big collision instead of just making a solid fundamental tackle.

Also, it's obvious their staffs spent a lot of time studying film. How many plays kind of got blew up because their position coaches knew each others tendencies? Rather nice watching a couple fundamentally sound teams for a while.

I am wondering what this game they are playing. The announcers spend a lot of time referring to the national championship game on Monday. Maybe this is just a scrimmage.

Perceptions will probably never change. One of the last games that other place played in Chattanooga a reporter thoroughly embarrassed himself by writing a feature column in the Missoulian asking people throughout town if they knew there was a National Championship game being played in their town. Attendance was about 12,000. The local population neither knew or cared about small college football. I notice most of the crowd in Texas is either NDSU or Illinois State. We are small college. I got used to that fact and it really doesn't bother me very much.

The Bison just keep the intensity at one level and seem to just tend to wear down the opposition. For both it is "can you spell FUNDAMENTALS".....NDSTATE just a bit more.

And really, this is just minor league football. Nothing to see here. :-^

20-7 NDSU. Wow. Could they make it four in a row in how many years since "moving up?"

Could you imagine NDSU with over 20 more scholarships given their recent past against the Big 10 and 12?

Love that illegal formation call! That is going to cost more and more spread offenses.

Aren't we lucky those few schools kept them out of our conference? FOUR CONSECUTIVE???? Takes a long time to adjust to the tougher competition when you move up

Just out of curiosity, which schools kept them out of the conference? I assumed it was Fulllerton under the direction of all the presidents. Is there some sort of public record that shows who voted how?

I can't find the vote but it is probably taken down from the conference headquarters in Ogden by now I am certain. I can't help but laugh now because the committee that toured and their reasoning to reject both NDSU and SDSU in 2004 and admit Northern Colorado are very funny! Then, just for good measure they did it again in 2005. You could google the old articles and get a few chuckles reading what our very important people had to say about those schools they rejected...and why they admitted others.
