Griz take a Stitt
@kylesample_IR: Despite denials from the administration, Montana will hire Bob Stitt as its 37th head coach. Expect an announcement tomorrow or Tuesday
If Sample says so, I'd believe it.
So what does everybody here think of this hire? What does this do for MSU if anything?

Don't know anything about him. He must be good if they chose him over Brent Pease who supposedly was willing to take a couple hundred thousand dollar pay cut to coach the griz. Here's to hoping he is the grizz version of Earle Solomonson

I'm sure he's a pretty good coach, but he will quickly find out that there is a HUGE difference between being the head coach of the school of mines, and UM. The job descriptions probably aren't even similar. If he does somehow make it work there and turn them into a team that has the heart of a champion.... Which I seriously doubt... It would take him a few years. It will be fun watching Griz Nation endure that. I'll especially enjoy watching them squirm when their defense starts looking sucky due to them moving to a fast paced, explosive spread option system like ours.LongTimeCatFan wrote:http://goo.gl/vaGWQyWeltercat wrote:Don't know anything about him. Re: Griz take a Stitt
I must admit it's a gamble but the payoff could be huge.
At first it was hard for me to get by the "Colorado School of Mines" association. That just sounds bad. The more I have looked into it the last couple of weeks the more I am convinced this is the guy for the job. He thinks outside of the box and that is what our program needs right now.
Will there be a hiccup or two in the transition? Most certainly. Next year especially will be tough but when things start clicking under Stitt it will change how the BSC plays....or attempts to play, defense.
Come mid season 2016 at the latest Cat fans will be wishing Hauck was back at U of M....and we all know how much you love Bobby.

He runs a spread offense.... Like MSU, SSU, EWU.GRIZ1STCATS2ND wrote:I must admit it's a gamble but the payoff could be huge.

He is credited with the fly sweep, which MSU has been running since Ash got here with Gilbert.
It isn't like nobody sees this offense or has seen it before.
Granted, MSU has no defense, but it's not like he's going to "change the conference." DeNarius McGhee, Robin Pflugrad, Beau Baldwin, all changed the conference. It's already there.

He seems like a solid, honorable man who will show respect for his players, school, fans and opponents.
These are things Bobby didn't bring to the table.

Wait. That would mean no yelling FT opponent. Oh maybe not. Everyone has a different way of interpreting what respect is

If the rumor is true that Bobby quit the Rebels thinking he was going to get his job back is hilarious....karmas a bitch Bobby!

He quit UNLV because they offered him 400K to walk away so they could get 30 million donation from the family that wanted the high school coach. He got to save some face in the process by quitting rather than being fired.WeedKillinCat wrote:If the rumor is true that Bobby quit the Rebels thinking he was going to get his job back is hilarious....karmas a bitch Bobby!

Re: Griz take a Stitt
I could be way off here with my occasionally sketchy memory.... but I thought Phlu ran more of a hybrid system that wasn't so fast paced, no huddle, spread, run a hundred plays, etc. Additionally, I thought the Griz D stats DID take a hit when Pflu was running the show. Fully admit I could be wrong here but I'm not going to look up the stats right now.LongTimeCatFan wrote:They did it before with Pflugrad and they're keeping Gregorak sooooo.....catatac wrote:I'm sure he's a pretty good coach, but he will quickly find out that there is a HUGE difference between being the head coach of the school of mines, and UM. Re: Griz take a Stitt
We ran a hybrid offense in 2010 when we were stuck with Roper/Selle at QB
In 2011, it was a completely no-huddle, zone-read, zero TOP, imitating-Oregon offense. The defense wasn't too shabby either, only giving up 30+ in our 3 losses. It was no NDSU, but it was one of the stronger units in the playoffs.

Re: Griz take a Stitt
Ok, thanks for the clarification... I do remember that "stagger" year in there and Griz Nation obviously not begin happy with Roper. At any rate, I just glanced at the defensive stats for the Griz and the Cats in 2011.... Griz gave up just over 20 points per game, Cats gave up just over 22. Damn close.Silenoz wrote:We ran a hybrid offense in 2010 when we were stuck with Roper/Selle at QB

Sounds like the announcement will be today with introductory press conference on Friday per Wahlberg. I'm so excited to hear, I nearly Stitt my pants.

Re: Griz take a Stitt
Really strange how this is going on. So if Stitt is the one who leaked the info last week (Might be an indicator that he is not ready for the world of D1 football), the reporters that reported it were obviously going to make sure this was legit, or their jobs might be in danger. So if true, Haslam flat out lied to the media and said no offers had been made yet. Additionally, Gregorak was just quoted as saying he has never talked to Stitt. WTF? That means either he is out, or this whole thing is even stranger than I thought. You're going to have a new head coach come in and tell him, but you need to keep the current DC on board, which I suppose can happen, but the new HC doesn't even talk to him for five minutes?coachouert wrote:Sounds like the announcement will be today with introductory press conference on Friday per Wahlberg.
