Has this sort of thing happened much in the past? It seems strange for a high school coach to be hired as a head coach for a somewhat prominent NCAA program (FBS program, anyway). I can't think of any others off the top of my head, but that's not saying much.

Art was actually a position coach at Texas Tech right before he was hired at Baylor. So he didn't go straight from h.s. to college head coach. I believe his hiring will open a huge flood gate of donations from the Fertitta family. Barring an Earle Solomon type of coaching disaster that kind of money infusion is one thing that program needs more than anything.

It's one thing to recruit the best kids in Vegas to play at Gorman. It's another to recruit them to UNLV. He will fail as all the others had. His gig at Gorman was a better job. But to each their own
