EWU Carries BSC Torch in FCS

Post by aucat » Sun Dec 07, 2014 12:23 am

Another great season for EWU. We'll see how far the Eagles can take it. Lots of balance this year in the FCS. Note NDSU had a really tough
time with SDSU. Improves our stock some I guess.

Amazing how successful EWU is in most of its sports, given its location and competition not only with UW, WSU but pro teams in the state as well.

Ewu stays competitive with their low academic standards. They take Prop 48 kids that neither Montana schools will ever sniff.

The rules might be different for us, but we still play the same game. Billy Beane created a winning team in Oakland against teams with a fraction of the payroll of bigger markets. We just need to find a way to overcome our own challenges.

Well put.

I don't know about you guys but I'm just happy with 7-8 wins per season ... I mean 14 years ago we were winless ... If Ash ever leaves, we'll be headed straight back to winless ... :coffee:

I like EWU. They remind me of Ampipe in that movie All the Right Moves. Any team that has the deck stacked against them as much as they do usually gets my casual support at a minimum. They're a blue collar team that has overcome a small town stigma, lack of support, sub-par facilities, among other things, to become the new standard in the BSC.

I also like Beau Baldwin, who seems like the kind of guy you'd want to play for. He always on the cutting edge and that has to be a good draw for players.

I HATE EWOO more than UM. But I gotta go for BSC. It helps everyone in the conference if they go deep. I think they could win it all. Especially since they learned how to play defense.

Geez, I'd hate to see how pessimistic you would be without your morning coffee. When Ash leaves I don't think we would have any trouble finding a coach that could keep us playing at this level and maybe better at getting the team ready to play the Griz.

He was being VERY sarcastic and somewhat flippant to those that are afraid of a change.

I could be wrong on this but it looks like Sam Houston was the only non seeded team that won last week to win this week. While all the teams left are quality I think I remember reading the Bearkats had an insane amount of drop down/transfers. Massive talent that needed to gel. They are dangerous.

Somebody needs to bring EWU back to earth. I loathe them almost as much as UM.

Right. Eastern is just loaded with Prop 48 kids. Can you name one that contributes to the success of the team? Didn't think so. Starting to sound like an eGrizzer parrot...

Look, they're a good team and have been for awhile, as have been the Cats. Lame excuses like that are just, well, lame. I appreciate a good back and forth. Let's stick to the facts while doing so.

I've not met a single jerk among all the fans who've come to MSU and I've always been treated really well in Cheney. I really like EWU and what their Athletic Department is building. Represent the conference with class and dignity. Good luck.

Since when is Spo-Compton a small town? Spokane has more AA size schools than the entire state of Montana...agreed about the facilities and lack of support, however.

Going to be interesting. All the computer rankings really like ISU. They put up 45 on northern Iowa last week, and beat SDSU by 25. I don't want to say ewoo can't do it, but I'm think they are clearly the underdog, despite their seed.

I was disappointed to watch the Cats bow out of the playoffs because I say so much promise throughout most of the season. The future is bright however, and I like everything I see at MSU. Great fans, great teams, great facilities. I gladly pull for the Cats when I can. However, this never ending myth about Eastern's reliance on prop 48 non-qualifiers has to stop. Last year, of the 307 EWU student athletes, exactly 3 were non-qualifiers http://m.spokesman.com/stories/2013/nov/28/study-buddy/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Not what I would call a reliance on academically ineligible athletes. In fact, academic requirements for all prospective freshman at Eastern are much more restrictive than at MSU. Look for yourselves.
Eastern http://www.ewu.edu/undergrad/freshman/requirements" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
MSU http://catalog.montana.edu/undergraduat ... rgraduates_" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't want to start an argument about which University is better. I do want to dispel the myth about Eastern student athletes being academic charity cases.
