UAB shutting down football

I went to the MSU-UAB game back in 2001. Legion Field even back then was a dump and in a pretty sketchy part of town. There was a listed crowd of about 20,000 at that game but it appeared to be much, much smaller. Hard to tell though because Legion Field is so cavernous.
Tough market. Birmingham is the capitol of SEC country. Anything less than that gets no attention.

I remember watching that game. Seems to me that Kane Ioane had a great game as a freshman...

Looks like their players re free to play anywhere they can. Would this be an opportunity to snag some of their players?

Sad comment regarding this situation:
The interesting point about this story is the UAB program is being held hostage by the University of Alabama Board of Trustees. Hence, UAB, University of Alabama Birmingham. Every decision made by the UAB university goes through this committee. And here is the kicker.....The head of the UA BoT is the one and only Paul "Little Bear" Bryant, Jr. (Son of Bear Bryant).
Little Bear has made it clear UA should be the only Alabama football school in the state. Since making these comments he has done everything in his power to hold the UAB community hostage. There have been numerous private donations, coaching "hires", fully funded stadium renovations that have been Vetoed by the UA BoT.
The real story is not UAB losing their football team. The story is how UA is shutting down the UAB football team by force.

Wonder what state's Board of Regents continually underfunded a school many of us hold near and dear to our hearts but surprisingly enough, the professors of the short changed school became very proficient at writing Federal Grants hence the shortchanged school became a rather renowned research institution and now has 15,500 students to the other schools approximate count of 9200? That's about 58% more students than the other place. And, 47% of the freshman class this year are nonresidents, a difference of about 6800 in state tuition compared to 21,000 nonresident tuition. Math would not be the other school's strong suit it appears.

UM has a total enrollment of 11,707 on the main campus versus the 14,981 at MSU on the main campus. When you include the two year schools of Missoula College and Gallatin College (which both schools do when calculating their total enrollment), enrollment is 13,952 at UM versus 15,421 at MSU.
Back to discussing how we can get players from the proverbial powerhouse UAB to transfer to MSU.

Would probably have a better shot a snagging a few from PSU, rumor on the street is PSU is packing it up too.

James Banks a LB from Sheldon(Mitch Herbert). Was a top ranked LB in OR and went to a JC then UAB. Would have 2 years left?

All governmental accounting works this way. Budgets are smoke, spending is mirrors. The higher the profile, the more people also give to the alumni assn. or the foundation or maybe even a new business school.

Despite being bowl eligible (6-6) they did not get an invite (of course a non-winning record in my book does not justify a bowl game). They are done playing football at UAB.
