Class act! Griz fans have to appreciate what he did for the program after the issues they had. I hope to have as much energy as he has had coaching the Griz in his seventies. Enjoy your retirement coach!

The fact that Coach Delaney took the time to write a handwritten note to his biggest rival's quarterback when he suffered an injury tells me all I need to know about his character. Best wishes to Coach Delaney in his retirement.

Can't blame him for wanting to retire. He is 72! I sure the hell am not working into my 70's!

I was going to school at Western when he was the coach. Great guy, always made time to talk to you, even if you were not an athlete. He and Dennehy built a solid foundation that Bob Beers used to dominate the Frontier Conference and get to the semi finals in the early to mid 90's.

Doesn't the timing of this announcement seem a bit strange? Or perhaps he just made his mind up in the past few days? Maybe there is some psychology here thinking it might motivate the players more to win their last game for the old coach? Just seems strange to announce it when there is still at least one game left in the season.
Great time to be a BOBCAT!

I think they new this was going to be his last year . Instead of waiting until after the season is over(Sat. evening) they used it as a motivator for a must win situation.

Re: Delaney to retire at UM
I don't think it's a "coincidence" at all. There's a wide range of opinions among UM fans about how good of a job he's done over the last three seasons, but I don't think there's any debate about him being respected and well liked. I'm sure the announcement was timed with the idea of providing a bit of an emotional lift to the the team going into Cat-Griz.Hawks86 wrote:I think they new this was going to be his last year .
