Truly amazing!!!

Post by Plainiac » Fri Jun 27, 2014 8:13 pm

Wasn't sure if any of you guys had seen the Big Sky Conference's 50 year anniversary lists. They had best mens athlete, best womens athlete, and best moment. Best mens athlete was Dave Dickenson, best womens athlete was Shannon Cate, and best moment was the football dynasty that began with the construction of Wa-Griz Stadium. Clean sweep for the Griz! Wow, what a great thing it is to be a fan of such a dominating school!

Your right. The griz have been dominant in many sports (Football, Men's BB, Women's BB and I believe soccer). Your also number one in arrogance, conceit and insecurity (why else would um sports be sooooo important to you).

:?: Not sure what you're talking about. I attended and graduated from The University of Montana. I AM A GRIZZLY! UM has dominated the cats for my entire lifetime and last year's laugher of a game signaled the beginning of the next "streak". See ya in Missoula.

Yep. When I said "Missoula", I meant Missoula. Did you think when I said Missoula that I meant Bozeman? You know Bozeman, that crappy little sub-divided ****** hole where the cats haven't won for almost a decade.

Now can we get back to talking about how amazing the Griz are instead of engaging in boring town smack? I'll start. Did you know that of the 113 times the two schools have met on the field, the Griz have won an astounding 71(!) times? Another fun fact? The Griz own the single largest margin of victory in the series as well, a 79-0 beatdown that the cats have never fully recovered from...in 1904.

All smack aside, that's a pretty remarkable accomplishment. UM has had some outstanding athletes over the years.

The most incredible team moment was ISU advancing to the Elite Eight. Granted there were only 32 teams in the tourney, but it's equal to or greater than reaching the Sweet Sixteen today. No other BSC team has done it before or since.

UM has a great stadium for the FCS (so does MSU), but it doesn't belong on the list. If it does, then surely other venues should've made the top 50 moments. Isn't SSU's a top track venue nationally? BSU has hosted NCAA tourney games numerous times. The MSU Fieldhouse was some kind of engineering marvel.

There appears to be a strong Montana bias with four of five Montana athletes in the top five. I don't consider Stenerud's BSC career to be top five material. He was just 18 for 35 for his career.

MSU - 17 team National Champions (most recent 2025); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

I'm certainly not defending that dipwad Plainiac, but just to clarify, it was UM's football dynasty that was named the top moment, not Wa-Griz stadium. It's just that the beginning of their dynasty essentially coincided with the construction of Wa-Griz.

Shannon and Dickenson are two really good people who have gone on to represent Montana well in their post-collegiate lives. I'm not sure why any Bobcat fan would be upset about those two getting a much-deserved accolade.

Two great people, and neither talk about themselves or the past in real life. How humble they are is what is most amazing to me.
