I was watching Mike & Mike this morning, and they were discussing whether or not fans should root for their rivals, when watching them play in bowl games. Apparently several Michigan fans had commented that they were rooting for Michigan State in the Rose Bowl, because if MSU (the other one) won it reflected well on thier state and conference. So they asked Mark Schlereth for his opinion, and he mentioned playing for Idaho when they were still I-AA/FCS and played in the Big Sky Conference, and that Boise State was their biggest rival. He talked about watching the famous BSU-Oklahoma game, and getting so caught up in the underdog taking down a mighty BCS conference team, that he found himself sort of rooting for BSU. Then after the game was over, and he realized he'd been rooting for his arch-rival, he felt so dirty that he had to take a shower. I thought that was pretty funny. It was cool that he specifically mentioned the BSC though, as opposed to Cowherd who seems to intentionally avoid making any references to his EWU/BSC ties like it was the plague, even after EWU won the NC in 2010.

It also proves what many have been saying. You never root for your rival....EVER

I heard Cowherd talk about it several times after they won it all. He's pretty proud of the red turf.

He also did a video spot on the fund raising video EWU put out to help raise funds for the rest of the red turf. He makes no secret of where he is from.
