I just read a piece about Nate Montana'a performance at a recent NFL combine that was held at Cowboys Stadium. Is he delusional? He couldn't even beat out JJ, GK, and SSH at UM, and he really thinks he has a shot at the NFL? Not to mention that bouncing around to 4 different schools (actually 5 if you count his 2 stops at ND) during his college career doesn't really cast him in a very positive light. One person commented that he had no shot, but Gil Brandt apparently believes that he'll at least get invited to camp by some team. If that turns out to be true, you know it will only be because his last name is Montana. There is no justice in the world if Montana lands on an NFL roster, while Travis Lulay is not.

He won't be on an NFL roster. If for no other reason, he was was invited as a salute to his dad.

There was never any true QB competition at UM where Nate Montana was afforded an "honest" opportunity to win the starting spot. The "JJ" that you referred to was handed the QB starting job due to him being the head coaches son's best friend and also teammate (QB) in HS.

"Delusional" is a strong word......Why "rag" on or take a "shot" at a young man who is only trying to continue playing a game that he loves to play. If I may say so myself, Nate has shown alot of "balls" to even attempt to play football on - any level - knowing the unwielding spectre cast by his fathers legacy and that irregardless of his own successes, he will only be compared to arguably the "G.O.A.T"....the greatest of all time.

Anything short of Nate winning a SuperBowl or maybe even 2 ??? would be viewed as a failure by many, but how unrealistic is any of that ???....Very !!!!

And so what if he is being afforded a "tryout" due to his "pedigree" ??? ...That happens everyday in all walks of life, but if he is to make it, it will only be because of his own ability - which lets not forget, has gotten him this far, which is already alot farther than 99% of the young men that play college football - and not that of his father.

Its also very easy, and even a "knee jerk" response for many people to wanna "knock" and / or criticize young men - in this case Nate - who may not have been the 4 or 5 star recruit, but are willing to expose themselves to unrelenting criticism because of such, and are doing what most of us would never want to do....taking a shot at our dreams in front of the whole world !!!

All young men - not just Nate - following their dreams, knowing that the odds may be "stacked" against them should be applauded, and not "knocked" for doing so.

She found a couple bottles of that Nate Montana Kool Aide they brewed up a couple years ago. I thought that all went bad. Guess not!

Did he even play at the last school? Did the team do any good last year?

I'm not sure how the team did, but Nate started for them and had a decent season...threw for about 2,500 yards as I recall. I should have included a link with my original post, but now I don't even remember where I saw that...probably on Yahoo.

As A Senior (2012): Started nine games behind center for the Bobcats ... honorable mention All-WVIAC ... led the conference in passing yards (2,480) and touchdowns (19) ... tossed for 413 yards and four touchdowns against Seton Hill (9/22) ... season-best 432 yards passing and four TDs at West Virginia State (10/27).

In no way do I expect to ever see Nate on an NFL roster, but one thing I'd point out is that his father wasn't "supposed" to be anything great, either. According to Joe Montana's scouting report from 1979:

Before the 1979 draft, one scouting combine rated Montana a 6½ (out of 9). The report said: "He can thread the needle, but usually goes with his primary receiver and forces the ball to him even when he's in a crowd. He's a gutty, gambling, cocky type. Doesn't have great tools, but could eventually start."

He also didn't play for 4 different schools in 4 years in college.
