Other post season basketball tournament
Weber doesn't get to the NIT, but they are in the CIT hosting Cal Poly. And North Dakota gets in the CIT as well traveling to Northern Iowa. Good for them.
There's another post season tournament called the CBI. North Dakota State is in that.
If MSU ever stumbles to a winning season they could get in one of these some day...just hope it happens before these "other" tournaments go out of business.

Re: Other post season basketball tournament
The NIT is run by the NCAA now. Any regular season champion who loses in their conference tournament gets an automatic bid. So if the Griz had lost to Weber they would have automatically been in the NIT.

Hey did the Cats make the field of 16 for the Wayne Estes Memorial Open division? Just kidding, all in fun

With our RPI of 310 we wouldn't even make it in this senario:GRIZFNZ wrote:Hey did the Cats make the field of 16 for the Wayne Estes Memorial Open division? Just kidding, all in fun![]()

The Big Sky gets 3 teams into the Women's NIT. Northern Colorado gets the auto-bid, while Eastern Washington and Idaho State each get an at-large entry.

North Dakota loses to Northern Iowa 77-66, but they made a decent showing in a tough place to play. Weber rolls over Cal Poly 85-43! Good win for the Wildcats and the Big Sky-who should never take any post season win for granted. Not sure who Weber gets next. I think that tournament (CIT) reseeds itself after each round.

Looking at the teams in the CIT tournament, Weber has a great shot to make a deep run. I'm pretty shocked they didn't make it to the NIT.

It would be an incredible feat if WSU wins another game, but it could just work out for them. Either way it'd be nothing to sneeze at.
MSU - 17 team National Champions (most recent 2025); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Not sure if it is official, but Air Force's website says that Air Force's next opponent will be Weber State in Ogden on Saturday.

Re: Other post season basketball tournament
In Ogden? Wow, you guys got a good seed because AFA has a great home court advantage. AFA is a good team. They were 4 close losses away from making the NCAA tournament (UNLV by 5 in OT, SDSU by 3, CSU by 3, Wichita St by ). Surprised they didn't go the NIT.WSUWILDCAT wrote:Not sure if it is official, but Air Force's website says that Air Force's next opponent will be Weber State in Ogden on Saturday.
Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Weber State saving a little bit of face for the Big Sky-beat Air Force 78-57 in the CIT. I think they're in the quarter finals. Probably the Big Sky's deepest run in any post-season tournament in about 40 years.

It has been confirmed that Weber will host the winner of the Oral Roberts/UC Irvine game on Wednesday. I'm liking these 3 home games.

Weber beats ORU 83-74 to get to the final four of the CIT. Now they have to go to Northern Iowa this weekend. Nice little run for them.

That's very impressive for a BSC team. I didn't think they'd win one game and they've won the all decidedly.

I just read that one weber player beat lillard's 3 point shooting record. It was a great article. Congrats to him and to weber for representing the BSC!

Re: Other post season basketball tournament
This is precisely why I would be a proponent of forming some sort of separate basketball division for "low major" D-I programs. Would you rather be WSU, making a run at the title in this tourney (which I readily admit that no one pays attention to nationally, just like the FCS in football), or would you rather be UM, whose season is over after getting blown out by almost 50 points in the 1st round of the NCAA tourney? As a fan, I think I would prefer WSU's situation. Good luck to WSU in the semis...go Cats!!

Re: Other post season basketball tournament
I think that the difference in postseason formats for D-I football and D-I basketball are exactly the reason why a "low-major" basketball division will never happen, even though I agree that it would be an intriguing idea. Does Florida Gulf Coast want to join the low-major division? No thanks, we'll stay in the Sweet 16 and be talked about and shown on national TV. Does George Mason want to join? No thanks, that one final 4 appearance did more for us than a FCS championship has ever done for anyone. Do other schools want to join? No thanks, we might be the next FGCU or George Mason! In football, there is zero chance for a "low-major" team to compete for a title because only 2 (or 4 in the future) teams even get a shot to play for the highest level national title and they're almost guaranteed to come from the power conferences. Not so in basketball, where the "little guys" get a shot to compete and win as long as they're good enough.John K wrote:This is precisely why I would be a proponent of forming some sort of separate basketball division for "low major" D-I programs. Great post! My sentiments exactly. Unfortunately, as long as PF is at the helm, we won't need to worry about making the Big Dance...MSU01 wrote:I think that the difference in postseason formats for D-I football and D-I basketball are exactly the reason why a "low-major" basketball division will never happen, even though I agree that it would be an intriguing idea.
