Just an alert to all you sports fans that are Montana craft brew lovers. The Montana Tavern Owners are at it again. They are pushing a bill which is being introduced by Rep. Hagan of Great Falls that will severly limit what a brewery can sell on premises. It will put many Montana breweries out of business. The MTA says they want a level playing field. What they really want is a CONTROLLED playing field by them. They want to stifle any competition and keep everyone else out. The train has left the station with consumers. Tasting rooms are wildly popular with consumers. They like the beer and the atmosphere. The Montana tavern owners would be smart to take a look at what is making these tasting rooms so popular and incorporate some of these things in their bars to attraact these people instead of trying to blow them up. One place that has done that is Montana Ale Works in Bozeman. They offer a very wide selection of Montana beers and from other western States and they advdertize it. The place is packed every night of the week.
The Montana brewing industry is one of the fastest growing business segments in Montana. It is now A $50 million industry in our State with 38 breweries employing hundreds of people. On top of that they use locally souced barley and wheat in their products. This bill LC1429 will be an economic disaster. You can help our brewers by emailing your State Rep. and asking them NOT to support LC1429. They really need your support.

For the record Montana Ale Works is licensed as a bar and does not brew its own beer on site or anywhere else.

That is what he is saying. They are a bar that has a tap room feel and they are doing very well. Maybe an example for other bars.

Your right, that's what I was saying. They are a bar/rest. that kind of mimics a tasting room only on a large scale. They have managed to attract the micro-brew lovers that also go to the tap rooms with their large selection of great Montana brews and some from other western states. They were smart in recognizing the market and how to attract those people and capitalize on it. Some of the other MTA bar owners are in the dark ages and the only thing they know to do is to try to limit the competition by destroying the brewers. I give Montana Ale Works great credit. That place is packed every night of the week.

Probably doesn't hurt that they have great food there.
