Anyhow, I think it's looking like Jordan Johnson is guilty, based on the Tweets. That's my opinion. Seems obvious to me.

#JohnsonTrial Thread Two
Apparently kmax shut down the last thread because of one meltdown by a Griz fan that wasn't at all based on what TomCat88 posted.

Re: #JohnsonTrial Thread Two
Based on your opening post, I don't expect this thread to remain open long, either. But in case I end up being wrong -- just for my own edification, would you care to point out which post of Tampa's from the prior thread you think constitutes the "meltdown"?
I ask because, as far as I can tell, Tampa was actually one of the more calm posters in that thread, and I'm having a hard time seeing anything among his posts that constitutes a "meltdown." I do see where several other posters had what might be referred to as such, but not Tampa.
Feel free to PM me, if you'd like (since, as I mentioned, the level of civility shown in your opening post doesn't seem conducive to this thread remaining open for long).

Re: #JohnsonTrial Thread Two
There were at least three meltdowns, or three PO'd responses. Not that it really matters and your question was for PapaG not me, so it's up for interpretation. GrizFnz, then Tampa, then yours truly. Followed by a chorus of petty, splitting hairs responses that lasted over a day, then I busted out some tunes and kmax, who apparently doesn't like my singing, shut 'er down.
Anyway, getting back on topic. If the jury vote isn't 12-0 does the prosecution automatically retry the case? If not, what are the options?

Another area the prosecution might delve into is Johnson's mind set. Seems like he may have been under some pressure to get laid based on the girl telling him she would do him any time, or something to that affect (was there testimony on that?) and his friend(s) over hearing it. Then Alex Bieneman appears to have known where Johnson was going and what he was going there for with his comment of "get 'er done, buddy." Obviously Johnson didn't want to return home and have to admit he couldn't score. Throw in a few beers prior to the ride over and it could be a tense moment on the stand.

In the case of a hung jury, the State has the option of whether to retry the case with a new jury, or to drop the charges. In this case, my guess is that the State may not want to go through a second weeks-long trial if the first one does not end in their favor.TomCat88 wrote:

I tend to agree. The facts in this case are too subjective, and the parties' behavior is too open to interpretation. No matter whose version of the story you believe, it would be difficult, in my opinion, to find any panel of 12 jurors who would vote 12-0 in favor of conviction.MSU01 wrote:In the case of a hung jury, the State has the option of whether to retry the case with a new jury, or to drop the charges. Im betting that enough jurors will vote not guilty that the state will say we did our best but can't justify the cost to the tax payers to bring this to trial again. In their eyes they will have done enough to keep the DOJ satisfied.Grizlaw wrote:I tend to agree. The facts in this case are too subjective, and the parties' behavior is too open to interpretation. Full coverage on Good Morning America today and was a headline on Yahoo!'s home page just now when I picked it up. I haven't seen this link posted yet but maybe it has. I don't care either way. Sickening.

Re: #JohnsonTrial Thread Two
I think today was supposed to be the last day of the trial, but I'm not sure that it will be. Has anyone heard if the defense has more people to bring to the stand? If Johnson is the last person the defense is calling, then they could be done with him by noon and do closing arguments this afternoon with a verdict late in the day.

Re: #JohnsonTrial Thread Two
According to my wife, since Johnson is taking the stand, the prosecution will have the opportunity to call witnesses that might impugn his credibility. So if that happens it will take longer. I would expect tomorrow at the earliest. Another underscore of the real inanity of putting Johnson on the stand. At this point if he is convicted he has himself to blame because I think they would otherwise have this trial basically won otherwise.TomCat88 wrote:I think today was supposed to be the last day of the trial, but I'm not sure that it will be. Re: #JohnsonTrial Thread Two
Bad cross for Johnson with Duerk today. Biggest moment in the trial so far, IMO.
Johnson agreed when he was asked if he "pinned her arms down over her head." Then after he agreed Duerk repeated it and mentioned that where he held her arms matched the bruising on her arms. The defense objected saying their were no visible bruises and was overruled. Pabst tried to minimize that by asking him if she was still able to get away, but that didn't seem to reduce the damage much. You just don't use the word "Pinned" when you're on the stand trying to defend yourself against a rape charge. He should've said I was holding her arms lightly or something not as strong as pinned. People think of wrestling when they hear the word pinned and it means the loser is pinned to the mat, which is also called stuck.
Now when the prosecution gives it closing statement it will tell the jury that Johnson said, in his own words, that he pinned the woman down and it was with such force that it left brusing on her forearms. He will probably still be found not guilty, but I guess this is why he shouldn't have taken the stand. Paoli and Pabst should've had him prepared for that question.

Trial will wrap up with a verdict on Friday. Sounds like they will have a light day tomorrow, then do closings Friday and turn it over to the jury. Then it's all over?
