For the second straight year and third time in four years it goes to a Capital High player. Brekke is a very good get for UM. He has great vision, speed and can start and stop on a dime. If UM doesn't play him at RB, it will be a mistake. Not that he wouldn't make a great DB, but he's flat dangerous with the ball.

I think someone once said this about Chase Reynolds. It took Hauck two years to know he was a RB. Definitely a mistake.

Rumor alert. He's allegedly looking around. MSU, Carroll, and Colorado State.

I thought I heard his dad was an MSU grad, does anyone know? I hope he is looking at the Cats it would be a perfect time for him to become a RB at MSU and as always it is an excellent school.

I don't think Gunnar is going to de-commit to the Griz, but I know for a fact his Dad was at the game Saturday night and he seemed to be enjoying the game and the atmosphere! I will tell you, if Gunnar was going to change his mind, Tomcat would know! The Brekke's are a great family and the Griz are very lucky to have them, but he would look better as a Cat.

If there ends up being any major NCAA sanctions against UM between now and signing day, I imagine that could also really sway the decisions of a lot of recruits.

you mean things like they are getting investigated by the NCAA, an telling recruits to ask what sanctions um may be facing, or are they just telling them to make sure and see the actual weight room that the football players use and not the other one they like to show everybody.

Not that I know of, but that was 30 years ago, so maybe. I know he went to Concordia in Minnesota for baseball, but maybe it was football, too. He was all-state at safety at Capital. I remember that, because I don't think he got in many games as a junior, but then made all-state the next year and I think he had about 10 interceptions. Tall, rangy guy. His best sport, I thought, was baseball. He had a great fastball. I think he started to rodeo (bareback...brutal event) in HS and rode in the state pro circuits for a while. I had him dig some trenches for my trees (shelter belt) a few years ago.
Interestingly, Ray's son Gunnar and Scott Winfield's son Zach were the starting tailbacks at CHS and HHS this year. Ray and Scott grew up just a few blocks from each other on the west side of Helena, which is the side of town I'm from. Ray's a year younger and Scott's a year older than me. Not sure where Zach is going, but he's college material, too.
I see there are some nasty allegations going on at egriz.com. Something about MSU's coaches telling Gunnar that UM is going to be put on probation. I highly doubt that any MSU coaches are doing that. The coaches here are surely smart enough to realize that saying something like that would turn a kid off in a heartbeat*, unless they somehow knew for a fact that it was the case. They might've pointed out the possibility, which is standard and nothing Gunnar doesn't already know, but it's very unlikely that anyone at MSU, or anywhere, knows UM's fate and would go beyond simply mentioning the possibility.
*There was an article in SI or ESPN mag a few years ago with recruits saying that it was a big turnoff for them when a school would go overboard on bad-mouthing another school.

It doesn't even make sense to say ANYTHING about um to recruits. I could see some temptation in years where we are one and two in the conference. um finished low in the conference, had a losing record, lost to the Cats at home, are being investigated by several organizations. lost their O coordinator and have a coach that will be gone in one more year. We don't need to say a single thing! If a recruit still picks um over us then there was no talking him out of it anyway!!!

This.
While we're at it, do UM fans really want to get into a conversation about negative recruiting practices??? I have heard several different examples of their (past) coaches ragging on MSU's program while on the recruiting trail, and they are the ones that have managed to snag a couple commits away from the Cats over the last few years. Wonder how they did that? I'm fine with it, btw, because nothing is sealed until signing day - I just don't think they should be throwing stones from their glass house.
