Akey fired as Idaho's football coach
It's getting ugly over here in my neck of the woods. Glad I'm a Cat fan. Really glad we didn't move to the WAC.

Akey fired as Idaho's football coach
What a complete mess they have over there. One of the comments below the article mentions that a recruit would be more likely to go to MSU, EWU, or UM before UI. I generally have to agree. Go to a college with a chance to play in the post season or enter the mess that is UI as an independent. They will be lucky to continue to win one or two games a year. They have little to no incoming revenue and really nothing to offer any conference or any chance to be survive as an independent. They are not Notre Dame.
How in the heck they think they can compete at the FBS level playing a base of $165k is absolutely ridiculous. I think you would find very few good FCS coaches that would be even interested in taking over that program. It's a train wreck and the cars are piling up fast. With the new PAC 12 tv revenue even the off and def coordinators at most of those schools make more than they would being the head coach at UI.
Then another commenter spouts off about how UI should be competing at the FBS level because they did for something like 85 years and the only reason they dropped down is no conferences would take them. Sounds like you are in the same boat as before buddy. No one wants you at the FBS level because you have done nothing to prove you belong and have nothing to offer any reasonable FBS conference.
The writing is on the wall. They will be a football member of the Big Sky after a reasonable athletic director looks at the situation and the Idaho Board of Education sees what a disaster this will be next year. They are like a two year old that keeps banging there head against the wall for no reason.

Wait a minute......
I read over on the UI board that they are going Independent because Notre Dame is their only academic equal. Their school is too good for the Pac-12 and to join the Mountain West would be a slap in the face.
I also heard that the Kibbie Dome is actually one of the nicer facilities in FBS (all 16000 seats that NEVER sell out)
Come on back to the Sky you crazy dilusional bastards....looks like you might have a shot at getting back the Little Brown Stein (MIGHT)

That UI fan board is completely hilarious.......I love how they refer to Boise State as Boise State Junior College.

Re: Akey fired as Idaho's football coach
They're vetting possible coaching candidates now. Just about every guy who ever coached football has been mentioned at one time or another, including Rob Ash. Beau Baldwin seems to be emerging as an early favorite.
Does the new guy have to accept a pay cut if the become FCS in a couple of years?

Fortunately, the idea that Coach Ash would want to go to Moscow is pretty laughable. He's not at the point in his career where he'll want to embark on a likely impossible rebuilding project at UI when he can stay at MSU and try to win the National Championship he wants to get. I can see Baldwin leaving for a FBS school, but not that one. Kramer seems to be the better fit but not sure if UI can take that risk after what has happened with him at MSU and ISU. I'm not sure what really happened in '06 when Kramer almost went to Idaho but withdrew...whether he really withdrew or they told him he wouldn't be hired given the myriad of off the field issues at MSU that were just coming to light.

I don't know what Paul Wulff is doing these days, but he might take it. It might mean a big pay cut if he is still getting paid from WAZZU. Then why take the chance but if you are sitting around, why not? Not a great opportunity, not even a good opportunity, but he was a pretty good Big Sky Conf. coach and that's where UI is headed whether they will admit it or not so it might be a good fit. He might not even have to move.

Paul Wulff is an assistant with the SF 49ers. He is doing very well, I think if he takes another job in the ncaa next year it will be at UC Davis. He is from Davis california and played his HS ball there. He would be a great coach for the ags, UCD has an excellent rep for academics and is hard to get into. I think wulff recruits those types of players and would be a great hire for the ags. I'm just not sure he'd be interested so soon. I am sure it would be a pay cut from his current position with the niners.Long Time Cat wrote:I don't know what Paul Wulff is doing these days, but he might take it. Thanks for the info on Wulff. I'm glad he's doing well, always seemed like a good guy to me.Weltercat wrote:Paul Wulff is an assistant with the SF 49ers. Re: Akey fired as Idaho's football coach
Comical...delusional...pathetic...I'm not sure which word best describes that board. One guy actually mentioned names like Holmgren, Petrino, and Tressel as possibilites for their coaching postion. Are they frickin' insane?? Are they really idiotic enough to think that any big name coach like that would really consider taking that job?? If only UI's fans could look at their program the way the rest of the college football world looks at it, but they're all living in La-La land. I actually root even harder against them now, that I do against UM. At least UM"s fans had a reason to be arrogant (well they used to have a reason). I don't think I've ever seen any other fans who had such an artificially inflated opinion of their program.Bobcat4Life wrote:That UI fan board is completely hilarious.......I love how they refer to Boise State as Boise State Junior College.

Great post. That move would make a lot of sense for UCD and Wulff. I'd like to see that happen. UCD has always had a good football program; with the new conference affiliation, they will continue to be good.Weltercat wrote:Paul Wulff is an assistant with the SF 49ers. The University of Idaho says two football players have been dismissed for violating team rules and a third has been suspended for violating athletic department policy.
The school announced Sunday that quarterback Dominique Blackman and linebacker Conrad Scheidt have been kicked off the team. The school also says tight end Taylor Elmo has been suspended.

It just keeps getting easier for Idaho to get the number of scholarships down to FCS level.
