Kemp has been suspended for the first four games for only taking 8 credits last semester (NCAA requires 9 per quarter). Canada won't be making the trip to Appy State because he didn't show up for his punishment for missing a team meeting. (That'll teach 'em Jordan!)

At least these are "normal" problems. Almost refreshing in a way....which is sad. I have to say I like Mick Delaney. He is the right guy for UM right now.

I don't see where he said anything about it being different??? Just pointing out the suspensions that were handed out to the players (both pretty stupid mistakes on the players parts btw)info197176 wrote:How is this different than Ash suspending your punter and snapper for the first game?? I think he is poking fun at Mr Canada for not showing up. I don't hink this is a dig against Delaney or um.info197176 wrote:How is this different than Ash suspending your punter and snapper for the first game?? Just sayin[cat_bracket] wrote:Today's episode of "As The Dumpster Burns" (per egriz.com)

If the rumors I heard this afternoon are true there is a real ishtstorm rolling into Missoula. I have not confirmed anything yet but the stories I heard make sense as it relates to Pflugrad and O'day being shown the door and the 3 investigations going on.
I heard that um proposed a 2 year ban and the NCAA said think more like 5.

Wow. If the rumors are getting that specific, it makes me think there might really be something going on. Is that theoretical ban a post-season ban?CPACAT wrote:If the rumors I heard this afternoon are true there is a real ishtstorm rolling into Missoula. USC has a player who's parents get the sweetest rental rate ever on a million dollar home, he himself was getting $$ and they get a 2 year ban and you think little ol' UM is going to get 5 years??CPACAT wrote:If the rumors I heard this afternoon are true there is a real ishtstorm rolling into Missoula. How is it "normal" to not know a guy that UM should be watching closely, Kemp, wasn't taking enough credits to be eligible?tdub wrote:At least these are "normal" problems. Almost refreshing in a way....which is sad. I have to say I like Mick Delaney. He is the right guy for UM right now.
How many times does that guy have to mess up before UM finally wises up and stops coddling him?
The Canada thing is completely normal, though, and UM handled it probably more severely than most programs would for missing a meeting.

Re: More UM football problems (Kemp/Canada)
USC didn't participate in Bush's deal. They did with Mayo, though, and Mayo getting $1k from a coach. On the other hand, if the NCAA finds Milt's firm as a booster, things could get very ugly, very quickly, in the mind of the NCAA. That doesn't include any internal 'rape' stuff that none of us are privy too, either.GRIZFNZ wrote:USC has a player who's parents get the sweetest rental rate ever on a million dollar home, he himself was getting $$ and they get a 2 year ban and you think little ol' UM is going to get 5 years??CPACAT wrote:If the rumors I heard this afternoon are true there is a real ishtstorm rolling into Missoula. That said, unless that leak regarding a proposed postseason ban came from the UM side at a very high level, it's probably not the absolute truth.

Re: More UM football problems (Kemp/Canada)
Kemp's situation is pretty unique. The NCAA wanted to show it is serious about education, and changed the rule from 6 credits passed to be eligible to play to 9 credits passed to be eligible. Kemp (and apparently UM) were unaware of the rule change, and Kemp needed and took 8 credits to graduate with a bachelor's degree. Kemp's in grad school now, but he's being suspended "technically" for not making adequate academic progress in obtaining his bachelor's degreePapaG wrote:How is it "normal" to not know a guy that UM should be watching closely, Kemp, wasn't taking enough credits to be eligible?tdub wrote:At least these are "normal" problems. Re: More UM football problems (Kemp/Canada)
Penn State gets a 4 year ban for knowingly let a coach rape little boys for 12 years. What on earth would UM have done to get 5 years?GRIZFNZ wrote:USC has a player who's parents get the sweetest rental rate ever on a million dollar home, he himself was getting $$ and they get a 2 year ban and you think little ol' UM is going to get 5 years??CPACAT wrote:If the rumors I heard this afternoon are true there is a real ishtstorm rolling into Missoula. As a Griz fan I probably cannot detach myself from loyalty and wishful thinking for my school but unless something comes up that the UM knowingly was allowing our players to rape young women for a very long time... I don't see where on earth a 5 year ban would be put in place.
And from pretty good (and multiple) sources I'm being told the NCAA is kind of floundering as they're not finding much at all. That could just be chatter as well but I guess we'll find out in time.

Nobody was accused of raping anybody, getting tazed, getting DUI's, etc, etc, etc. These are school or team activity related issues.
BTW - how has Kemp been coddled since the change in leadership? He was suspended from the team for some (rumored) twitter violations and poor attitude during summer conditioning. That doesn't sound like coddling. He reinstatement to the team, although with bad timing, had nothing to do with JJ or anything else. He was brought back and listed simply as a WR. Now the NCAA gives a 4-gamer. I know it's not UM doling out punishment on this one, but I still don't seem him as coddled with current leadership.

The NCAA isn't going to give anybody a 5 year ban. That's ridiculous.CPACAT wrote:If the rumors I heard this afternoon are true there is a real ishtstorm rolling into Missoula. Hmmm... well I think you have to look at what the real outcome of the penalty is. There's a big difference between a "Bowl" ban and a "playoff" ban both in terms of $$, and also consider that pretty much half the FBS teams make bowl games... whereas only 16 (now 20) FCS teams make the playoffs. So banning an FCS team from the playoffs for 5 years... may not even be a punishment at all if they weren't going to make the playoffs in the first place!!! (Yes I know UM is different, but I think you get my point).

If Kemp took 8 credits and the NCAA requires 9, I would have thought he'd be academically ineligible and not playing at all - not being suspended for 4 games by the coach?

I really hope the NCAA doesn't employ that type of logic when handing out punishment. It's kind of like a judge imposing fines based on a person's net worth instead of what they did.catatac wrote:Hmmm... well I think you have to look at what the real outcome of the penalty is. He only needed 8 to graduate. I can see him not knowing this rule. I would question the athletic department, I would think that all athletes would turn in their shcedules to athletics, which would give them a quick lookover to make sure that the kids were in compliance.catbooster wrote:If Kemp took 8 credits and the NCAA requires 9, I would have thought he'd be academically ineligible and not playing at all - not being suspended for 4 games by the coach?
