This is refreshing to see a coach put his foot down.

And I'll say there's no reason for this to be an embarrassment to the program or for anyone to assume this has anything to do with anything else that's happened this off-season. This could have been something as simple as him not cleaning the space around his locker enough times in a row. Point is, Delaney is changing the culture, and he should be commended.

Kenneth usually makes great posts, but for the griz not to be embarrased, I have it on a reliable source that the kid told the coaches that he did not like the halloween unis. This was the reason for the suspension.

Hell, during the 99’ season Hysell suspended a guy 1 game for being 5 minutes late for breakfast on game day…

I guess he showed up @ the griz encounter while he had consumed alcohol. The Butcher wrote:Hell, during the 99’ season Hysell suspended a guy 1 game for being 5 minutes late for breakfast on game day…

Hmmm. Is he old enough to drink? The only reason I'm asking is because the NCAA is camped out at UM right now, either putting together a list of infractions and determining penalties... or just looking for things to justify their investigation. Coaches and players there certainly better be 100% by the book in terms of crime and punishment right about now.grizhunter wrote:I guess he showed up @ the griz encounter while he had consumed alcohol. The Butcher wrote:Hell, during the 99’ season Hysell suspended a guy 1 game for being 5 minutes late for breakfast on game day…

Reading on egriz he is only 19 and the poster who broke the story did not say consumed alcohol but used the term "under the influence".
IF true that would be a pretty serious violation in my mind, given all the crap flying around there right now.

If the NCAA is going to start enforcing underage drinking laws they're going to be awfully busy. Outside of Penn State, has the NCAA ever waded matters regarding criminal behavior?

This. I don't think the NCAA gives a ****** if these kids are drunk, they just can't sell their jerseys.tampa_griz wrote:If the NCAA is going to start enforcing underage drinking laws they're going to be awfully busy. Re: Griz CB suspended for 1st game
I am going to go the other way with this.
Football is football, if something is happening at practice, team meetings or game days then its football related.
If a football player isnt at one of those functions he is a civilian that happens to play football and the fact that he plays football has ZERO FU*KING footing on a person drinking, selling/using drugs or stealing from cars.
Its the same thing as an employer thinking they can tell you what to do when you are not at work. Sure some employers/people get away with doing this but its bullsh*t on every front. If you are doing drugs/drinking or participating in a gay rodeo on the clock then its the employers business.
If not, its an invasion of privacy.

Re: Griz CB suspended for 1st game
Well he was (allegedly) at a football function so I don't know if your position is relevant to this discussion. Be that as it may, I disagree. Employers have a right to determine what behavior outside the workplace is acceptable.....even if it's legal. If I ran a web site promoting Nazi-ism or white identity or similar I would certainly lose my job even though the government says I'm allowed to under the first amendment. And that's the way it should be. I have the right to do what I want legally and my employer has the right to define what type of professionals they want to employ.AlphaGriz1 wrote:I am going to go the other way with this.

Just a few questions, if this rumor that he was drunk is true, which is far from and probably won't ever be substantiated.
Does anyone know how he acquired the beer/booze? What if he got it from a top end booster for free? Does it make a difference to the school if he's underage? If he had been of age would he have been suspended for the game?

Yep, especially if that employee is a public face of the company (which is a role each football player assumes on behalf of the university).tampa_griz wrote:Well he was (allegedly) at a football function so I don't know if your position is relevant to this discussion. Griz CB suspended for 1st game
I doubt he acquired the booze from a booster. I knew a lot of underage drinkers in college who weren't athletes. He probably got it the same way they did.TomCat88 wrote:Just a few questions, if this rumor that he was drunk is true, which is far from and probably won't ever be substantiated.

This. Getting beer underage isn't difficult, especially in Missoula. All you need is some kids expired ID, most people just check to make sure the date is good, don't even look at the picture.tampa_griz wrote:I doubt he acquired the booze from a booster.
