EWU football player accused of Rape

Post by Rich K » Wed Aug 22, 2012 6:53 am

This really sucks:
http://www.krem.com/news/crime/EWU-foot ... 33116.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Dalis Bruce was suspended immediatelly. Bruce is a Freshman from Anaheim listed as a WR.

Yuck. The description of events in that article are disturbing.

For the sake of decency and all that is right, can we all not take this in the direction it is likely to go? Please. [-o<

I'm guessing he's afraid that this will turn into a smack thread. Given that this is the internet, it's not an unfounded concern.

Personally I don't have the stomach for another smack thread about this topic. This is a major issue in our society as a whole, not an excuse for regional chest-thumping. You don't have sex with someone who says "don't have sex with me." You don't have sex with someone who is unconscious and can't say "don't have sex with me." It's really simple. I don't understand how it becomes such a major issue, but it is. Apparently some people think it's okay to put their sexual desires before a woman's right to control her own body. It's disgusting no matter who does it, where they live, who they play for etc.

Props to EWU for stepping up right away and taking action though. They made it clear that this sort of conduct is wholly unacceptable, and that's all they can really do. I would hope Ash or Huse would do the same if it happened here.

I don't think you're going to find too many people that disagree with you.

I wasn't even sure about posting this, except I believe ignoring something doesn't help anything.

I wasn't criticizing you at all. You're absolutely right. Ignoring something doesn't make it go away.

One would hope not, but the conduct of some Bobcat fans and some Grizzly fans says differently. Not to mention most if not all of my fellow Steelers fans, and plenty of fans of their rival teams.

I've seen way way way way too many people make excuses for this kind of thing. I've seen too many people crow and gloat about it, like it's somehow a good thing that someone had to suffer a heinous crime just because the perpetrator happened to represent a rival. It's sort of turned into a berserk button for me.

Couldn't agree more.

Looks like he was actually a pretty big recruit. Scholly offers from Hawaii, Oregon State, and Colorado among others. 3 stars on Scout.com.

What happened, did Gwen Florio move to Spokane? Everyone knows UM has the rape allegation market cornered. Let EWU find their own schtick.

Yeah. This ^^^^^^ was kind of what I was talking about. Or, "Your rapist is worse than our rapist" comparisons. Or any mention of The School Which Shall Not Be Named appearing in a thread dealing with an incident in Washington State.

Much respect for addressing the story with class. This kind of ****** sucks for all involved, mostly the two individuals and their families who will be dealing with it for a long time. As for EWU... he was our biggest recruit from this year's class, but fortunately we're well stocked at WR.

On a positive note, another true freshman, WR Cooper Kupp, has been tearing it up in fall camp, had 6 catches for 120 yards in the first fall scrimmage. He would see playing time this year if we weren't so loaded at WR already.

We've also got a 6'6 true freshman walk on named Keylin Huddleston who looks to be in the mold of Brandon Kaufman.

I like how earlier you say not too many people will go there with classless posts and yet you did. Way to go =D^

So here is a question. Is there actually more rape involving athletes or is it more of social media makes it so much easier to find out what is going on in todays society? Because it sure seems like we are hearing more and more cases every year.

I understand double-standards just fine. Have you ever considered a future in politics?
