Johnson checking out PSU?

Just heard that J.J left Missoula earlier this week and will make up his mind this week if he will be staying or transfering. If he does transfer he will enroll at PSU redshirt for a year and then hopefully compete for a starting spot the next year. They way I understood it if he left the girl would drop everything but if he stayed she will continue to press charges. If they went to court they believe he would the case but there is always that chance. If that did happen he would be charged as a sex offender for the rest of his life and would not be able to follow his fathers footsteps as a math teacher. Hope he tries to fight this through court and take his chances.

If this is true, wouldn't he lose a year of eligability per Big Sky rules?

Got to remember that this is the same guy that claims Grosulak wont be playing the first half of the season because his is injured.

Why not? does it have something to do with UM approving the transfer or is it BSC policy?

If JJ does leave it would sting because of the time of year and a lack of experience in the offense for a new QB. But how hard will it be to replace someone who threw for only 184 yards per game?

I heard that also. The strange thing about that is there are over 100 FCS schools and many needed QB's this year. You would think if you were going to drop down (transfer) you would have done it by now!

that's an interesting wrinkle. I believe you are correct that UM would have to approve the transfer. However, would that be required if he is expelled? Would his credits from UM transfer to PSU if he was expelled? If UM approves the transfer athletically and academically, then he would have to sit out a year per BSC rules, but as stated earlier, he has a redshirt year to use and technically, he could use that and still have two years of eligibility left. I'm just not sure how this works if UM does indeed expel him.

The sit out to transfer rule is NCAA not BSC, DeAlba(sp) had to sit out when he transferred from Drake, We has a QB recruit that had enrolled at Jacksonville St, that was required to sit out but left after that sit out year.

I think that UM has been operating under the policy that JJ is in good standing until the appeals are exhausted, it the final ruling has come down from the BOR then he is either expelled and would be free to pursue other schools or good to go for um. if he is expelled I am not sure on his transfer status since the NCAA requires "good standing" in order to transfer. Example is the Forcier kid a few years ago that had to transfer to a JC because his final year at Michigan he became academically ineligible.

He may be able to cut a deal though that if he leaves and agrees not to pursue legal action against um they would restore his standing so that he could transfer in good standing.

Thanks for the clarity. I misread, I thought 2506 said that he could not use his redshirt.

I think some of the confusion on the red shirt issue is that Pflu played him only a few plays when JJ was a freshman and many thought it was stupid to play him and instead let him keep the red shirt.

I guess I should've said he's a very accurate poster of Griz football on egriz. This will put his sources to the test, especially considering the subject.

The term "burned his redshirt" is a bit of a misnomer. Typically people say that when a player is red-shirting, but someone gets hurt (usually late in the year) and that player has to come in for a few plays hence "burning" that year. Just one play counts as a season.

"Burned his redshirt" should really be used when a player does in fact red-shirt for a season, i.e. he uses his red-shirt and now doesn't have one to use. If you play a down, you have lost a year out of the four you can play, but you still have a red-shirt year to use.

Hope that clarifies it a bit.

The thing is that the um situation is such a mess and there are so many rumors flying around the program and so many people trying to put their own spin that I have pretty much given up believing anything over there right now. I have seen some normally reliable posters make posts that turn out to be completely wrong throughout this ordeal

Yeah, I've been reading it quite a bit lately. I know that there are at least four (wahlberg, playerrep, AlphaGriz1 and crackgina) posters that have inside info that generally speak up when someone is out to lunch on what they're posting. One has said something that's neutral and the others haven't spoken up yet, so I'm beginning to lean towards the infiltrator report being accurate. We'll just have to see.
