Off the wall Question

Post by GrizinWashington » Sun Oct 19, 2008 3:33 pm

In this photo of Lulay, he has a band around his arm, immediately above the elbow. You see the vast majority of players at all levels wearing these things. Admittedly, I've been out of the game for sometime, but for the life of me I cannot imagine that they provide any competitive advantage.

What are these things, and why is everyone wearing them? Do they"do" anything, or are they just the latest in cool fads, like putting area codes on eye liner?

I think it's supposed to place pressure on the tendons connecting the Flexor and the Extensor muscles. The idea is to reduce the tension at the point of connection to the bone which in theory reduces tendinitis but I think it's mostly a fad.

I heard it helps to "lift" the bicep. The reason for doing that, I forget but it's probably along the lines of what Weltercat said.
