J Olsen bolts because he hates whitey?

Post by AlphaGriz1 » Thu Jun 05, 2008 10:49 am

So since Mr. Olsen left the Griz because (I'm using a quote from someone else) "he didn't feel Montana was diverse enough and felt as if he didn't fit in"

Kind of makes him a racist.

Glad nobody calls a spade a spade anymore.................oh sh*t can I even use that phrase anymore without being labeled...........who am I kidding, I don't care.

P.S. Please keep the door to this thread open, since the hordes of Griz apologists will be sprinting in here to shout me down and tell us all how to think.

I ended up near 125th Street in New York City (Harlem) late in the afternoon once ... and I didn't find it very diverse and didn't want to be there anymore. It wasn't because I was racist ... but it was because I didn't really feel as though the people there really appreciated me being there.

I understand how a guy could feel the way he felt ... especially with the Kroons of the world out there making racial generalizations about groups that you happen to belong to. I don't think that Montana is actually very hostile as a whole to other races (and I think most people are very open to all people), but I have seen just one or two bad interactions with ignorant people in a place where most everyone is of one race could really make a person feel unwelcome.

I don't know if that happened to Olsen or not ... but it definitely could.

I hope his experience and impression is the exception.

Your argument is bogus, alfa. Native Americans have been saying this for years about our colleges and universities. I don't think it's racist to say that you don't feel as though you don't fit in and can't relate.

Picture yourself at Evergreen State College here in Washington, Alfa. Very liberal school. Would you fit in? Would you feel welcome? If you stated so, would you be racist?

GinWa,
one small point. While I basically agree with your arguement, the example doesn't hold up. One can and should change their political opinions over the years....but one cannot change their race, and one cannot change someone else's race.
I just had to point that out.

Change the example to any HBCU ... and then we are probably talking about a perfect analogy.

HB since you obviously had preconceived notions about Harlem I don't think your capable of being unbiased in this thread.

I ended up in Harlem the night I got kicked off the Letterman show, I didn't feel like you described. I didn't give a damn.

The way Olsen acted and the things he said (allegedly) prove he has preconceived notions about whites and that is racism. Whether you like it or not it is the same thing except in this case the guy is black and we all know they can't be racist.

I have always been under the assumption that Jamaine Olsen had a white parent and a black parent. At least that's what I was told by people in Portland who watched him play high school ball.

Which message, that you jumped on mslacat for saying his OPINION, but stating it's ok for Alpha to state his? If you've got another point, you're right I missed it.

EDIT: BAC beat me to it, but please do dumb it down for us common folk.

Yes, for the politically correct, it does seem to pass over such heads.

I'd dumb it down for you, but you're already known for letting us know how intelligent you are.

I didn't jump on him. Pretty bold statement to just cry that someone is a racist. I simply made a comment about how thin his skin was and that I wasn't surprised the comment was from him.

Is that dumb enough for you two?

So just so I'm clear, it's ok for Alpha to call this Olson kid a racist, but it's not ok for mslacat to call Alpha a racist?
