When you go 1-28, and 7-49 in your last two seasons, it is time to go.

Just curious-is Carse the reason MSU and UM won't pay MSU-B in men's basketball? If they get a coach with a more conventional style will we see the Yellowjackets in Bozeman again?

Kusek Defending Carse

Post by maroon » Wed Apr 16, 2008 8:21 am

Joe Kusek wrote a "softball" article on Carse's firing and now he is defending him. Gazette readers are blasting Kusek. Joes does not get it.
The program was a wreck.

6 wins, then 1 win in two consecutive years. You are not going to "right the ship" with one more season. Kusek needs to pull his head out.

Have you ever seen Kusek in person? There is no way this guy even played a sport growing up. He can't even see over the top of a foosball table.

So, what happened to their program in the past couple of seasons? They were pretty successful throughout most of Carse's tenure, weren't they? How did they fall so far....so fast?

I think a lot of it was players transferring. Mainly the really good Australian guys.

This is a portion of an article wrote 4-16-2008:
The 6-21 season came after MSUB lost all five starters from a team that finished 20-8. Those losses included two of the most prolific scorers in Yellowjacket history - Cameron Munoz and Buddy Windy Boy - but also the dynamic Australian duo of Carlin Hughes and Lucas Walker, who opted to transfer to St. Mary's a nationally-ranked Division I program.

This year, Carse made a difficult decision to build for the future and it ended up costing him his job.

Planning for two, three years down the road, MSUB entered the powerful Great Northwest Athletic Conference with six freshmen and four sophomores. The Yellowjackets opened the season against some of the top Division II programs in the country - Metro State, Cal State-San Bernardino and Kentucky Wesleyan.

Still, a record of 1-28 is hard to defend.

My favorite part of the Kusek article is Kusek's insertion of his historic mantra that UM and MSU were afraid of Eastern.

Shakin' in their boots, they was!

Not afraid of Eastern but afraid of their coach.
