BUTTE, Mont. (AP) - Montana Tech has acquired a jumbo-sized scoreboard for Alumni Coliseum.

The $5 million Sony JumboTron stretches 24 feet by 18 feet and broadcasts live action, instant replays and advertising.

Athletic Director Joe McClafferty says the scoreboard will "put us on the map as having 1 of the top facilities in NAIA."

Montana Tech acquired the scoreboard from a Lolo sign owner who bought it from Oregon State University. It was shipped to Montana in three tractor-trailers.Through fundraising efforts and donations from Fleetwood Gaming owner Jon Dehler of Billings, the school needs only $150,000 to pay off the sign. More funds, however, will be needed to erect it.

McClafferty is confident future advertising revenue will be a boon to the school and its football program. Montana Tech hopes to have the scoreboard up for football season.
If this is real, congrats to Montana Tech for scoring this (pun intended). But does McClafferty really believe this monstrous scoreboard will make Tech's facilities one of the best in the NAIA? Unless I missed something, the football stadium is still shared with the defunct baseball stadium, is it not? Not what I'd consider a top-notch NAIA facility.

It's better than the scoreboard you guys got.

I don't care how you take this so here goes.

Seriously if you guys don't upgrade your scoreboard, you should go back the "hanging numbers in a board" type scoreboard.

I love those scoreboards in baseball and you could raffle off the 2 positions for each home game and the winners get to put of the number when the score changes. Heck tie it in with the "best seat in the house" thing.

It's a JumboTron (big TV), not a scoreboard.

Yeah.

Got it.

But your wrong according to what I heard in Butte this Easter weekend a score board is rumored to be involved as well.

If not, are you telling me they will never put up scores on that board with a CG?

Don't deflect the issue.

Frankly I could care less about a fancy scoreboard. It is the quality of the team put on the field not a fancy dancy scoreboard that turns the game day atmosphere into a circus. Half the crowd at Wash Griz don't even watch the game due to watching the scoreboard. I guess it does give wine/cheese type fans something to watch though.

So you have nothing then?

Actually leave it to you to make it smack.

I like those old hanging numbers boards they are classic and I wish teams still had those. It's cool, not smack.

Uh....lol, I guess? Props on your Indian Junior College level facilities, though. Does it suck to know you have the fourth best college football program in the state? UM>Carroll>Tech>Bozmatello

And where does this wine and cheese bulls.hit come from? Are you talking about the people in the box seats? Do you think that phenomenon is exclusive to UM, or are you just so obsessed with Daddy that you can't unfix your gaze from our collective buttocks long enough to see what's going on in the rest of the football universe. Maybe if you catered to your more affluent alums () you might be able to afford some modernization like replacement bulbs for the scoreboard and the ability to actually replace, instead of having to rotate on an every other home game basis, the urinal cakes.

I'll try to get this back on topic....

I have to agree with AG1 on this. The scoreboard does need to be replaced. However, given the list of upgrades and additions already needed, I'd have to say that the scoreboard is pretty far down on the priority list. I'd rather deal with the small replay screen/commercial board and get turf, box es ect. Unfortunately, we're not in a "toss money at it" situation so we'll have to take the improvements as we get funding for them.

I thought I had heard somewhere that Leerfield was doing work to try and upgrade the scoreboard, since they are the marketing people now and it is largely a marketing tool with the ad space and everything. Anyone else remember that or am I just dreaming.

It's actually a little closer to 97.6%.

Maybe you didnt realize the game isn't shown live on our Jumbotron.

If the scoreboard operator does not change a JumboTron type scoreboard won't be of much use. I would love to have a large screen if they just show the replays. Was it a fumble; was his foot inbounds. I would love to see some of the hits Daly dishes out over and over!

Christ, we're arguing about scoreboards now? Some of you really have nothing better to do, do you?

(Both sides, but a special "ef you" to alpha for his "and...and...and...and....even our scoreboard is better and not even worthy of being called a scoreboard in MONTANA more like a scoreboard in STATE amiright guys?!?!")
