ISU @ PSU will be on ESPN360, which I somehow fooled Bresnan into thinking I have.

The game is also on Altitude (Ch 38 in Bozeman-Belgrade).CelticCat wrote:ISU @ PSU will be on ESPN360, which I somehow fooled Bresnan into thinking I have.
The end of the NAU-Weber game was also on. Good job by NAU-all 58 of their fans are in a frenzy!
I've gotta admit-it's hard to watch. We're the 6th place team in the league-and lead the league in attendance-why can't we get it going on the court?
Meanwhile-the league's "top" teams, including a 12-18 ISU team, are playing in front of a lot of empty seats in the Rose Garden.

Part of the role of fans is to insist on a winner. Otherwise, you go 12-13-14-15 years between championships in a league with only 8-9 teams in it. MSU has been to the NCAA tourney twice since it got an autobid over 30 years ago. As fans I think we need to be a tad more persistent. We're starving, yet allowing the truck driver to pull over and take a nap every 50 miles.

what were we expecting at the beginning of the year? We had lost Dissly, Durr, Morris and a lot of our roster was made up of transfers/freshmen. I honestly expected us to finish right where we are, if not up a spot or two. I cant honestly say that i am not surprised with where we ended up.crazycat wrote:Hell's Bells wrote:give the team time - i honestly think we overachieved during the pre-season.BelgradeBobcat wrote:The game is also on Altitude (Ch 38 in Bozeman-Belgrade).CelticCat wrote:ISU @ PSU will be on ESPN360, which I somehow fooled Bresnan into thinking I have.

Ewww. You're not dragging that old line out again, are you? Give them time. Haven't we been giving them time forever. When will it be OK to stop giving them time.

Honestly with where we were last year, you cant tell me that you expected us to win the big sky. I know what you are feeling, just that some things are worth waiting for.

Announced attendance of 3,188 seems a little generous. I watched a little on Altitude and the lower bowl was 1/3 to 1/2 full while the rest of the place was empty. Hopefully a few more people will show up to make it look respectable on ESPN tonight.
Will Fullerton ever be held responsible for what he's done to this league? In the old days when we had the right schools in the conference, the place would have been packed regardless of the host. Now, UM, MSU, WSU and EWU are the league's only chances of filling an arena.

I believe that the Rose Garden holds 12,000, so the number of 3,100 or 1/4 seemed about right to me.
On another note, did anyone notice who was reffing the ISU/PSU game? ERIC CURRY!!! I can't believe that the BSC would allow an official fresh off of a suspension to work a post season game. Not to mention a game involving the team he shafted.

Amne, brother. Both the Cats & Griz were getting close if not over 5,000 a game just for the regular season. If that was our teams at home hosting a playoff game, I'm pretty sure that 6,000-6,500 would be very realistic.Re/Max Griz wrote:PSU beats ISU but only by 12, based on how they played the last few weeks I was a little surprised at that. 3,188 in attendance,![]()
If UM or MSU was hosting that'd be a full house (or damn close)

Not to nit-pick but I would bet the Rose Garden holds closer to 19-20K. (Too busy to look).econ_cat wrote:I believe that the Rose Garden holds 12,000, so the number of 3,100 or 1/4 seemed about right to me.

Carry on.
EDIT:
The Rose Garden, commonly known as the Rose Garden Arena, is the primary indoor sports arena in Portland, Oregon, United States. It is suitable for large indoor events of all sorts, including basketball, ice hockey, rodeos, circuses, conventions, ice shows, concerts, and dramatic productions. The arena has a capacity of 19,980 spectators when configured for basketball; it holds smaller crowds when configured for other events. The arena is equipped with state-of-the-art acoustics and other amenities.[1]

The Coliseum held about 17,500.Bay Area Cat wrote:The old arena right next to it holds about 12K -- that must have been the one he was thinking about.
Ok, I sound like a hard-ass, but I really don't mean to. These are just pro arena's. None are around 12K.
EDIT: I'm wrong again.
I was in the old Coliseum and swore it was bigger than 12-13K. Maybe because it was bigger than Metra.
When the Portland Trail Blazers franchise was awarded for 1970, The Memorial Coliseum became the team's home court, capable of seating nearly 13,000 when configured for basketball. Three NBA championship series have been (partially) played in the Coliseum; in 1977 (when the Trail Blazers won) and in 1990 and 1992 (the Blazers were defeated in both years). Construction began on the nearby Rose Garden soon after the 1992 championship series, and it became the team's home arena when it opened in 1995

My, times have changed:
The Memorial Coliseum is an indoor arena, the oldest part of what is now known as the Rose Quarter area within Portland, Oregon. Financed by an $8 million bond approved by voters in 1954, construction was completed in 1960 and it was dedicated on January 8, 1961 to the "advancement of cultural opportunities for the community and to the memory of our veterans of all wars who made the supreme sacrifice." The facility is 100 ft (30 m) tall and has a footprint of about 3.1 acres (13,000 m²). It is often referred to as "The Glass Palace" by Portland fans.[citation needed]

With the crappy schools we have spread throughout the conference, I think it would be best if the BSC would allow 8 teams to make the tournament(you could still give the top 2 seeds byes to the semis) and host the tournament in a predetermined central location like Denver every year. At least we would have more fan support, as fans from 8 schools would initially travel, and no sense leaving once your school loses, as I am sure you would pre plan to be there all nights.
Last night I watched the Summit League final between ORU and IUPUI, and while I think the BSC can compete on the court with that league, it was a joke when you compare the fans in attendance at the Rose Garden to what they had in the ORU game. The BSC looked like a class C tournament game

I believe the Friday and Saturday night crowds at the Class C tournament were much larger than the BSC game noted above ... even though all of the best Class C teams were from far away from Butte.old wise one wrote:The BSC looked like a class C tournament game
Maybe you meant to compare it to a Class A tournament game or something.

The league has gone 'round and 'round on this. If we invite everybody to the tourney at a pre-determined site we always stand a good chance of having a lower seeded team get hot, win the tourney, and go to the big dance as a 16 seed (like MSU did in 1986). Having the regular season winner host provides more reward for a great season and stacks the deck somewhat in favor of the league winner-whom the conference brass really want going to the tourney because they have the best chance of getting a higher seed.old wise one wrote:NoGriz wrote:Announced attendance of 3,188 seems a little generous. Plus-the Big Sky tried having the tourney in a pre-determined site years ago and I don't think attendance was much better. I doubt a tournament in Salt Lake City, or Denver, or whereever would draw that well. Heck, having the tourney in a smaller neutral site city like a Butte or Idaho Falls might draw better.
I have to wonder...if we want to reward the regular season winner, and deter having a team with a subpar record representing the league in the Big Dance-why have a tournament at all? It's not like the conference would be losing any money by not having tourney-heck the league would probably save money. On the other hand-we miss out on the ESPN game and being part of championship week.
I guess it's just easier to second guess whatever the league decides to do. That way we're never wrong.
