MISSOULA – For the eighth time in his distinguished play-by-play career, the “Voice of the Grizzlies” Mick Holien, has been named the 2007 Montana Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportswriters and Sports Broadcasters Association.

John Laugerquist (sp?), the Carroll football/basketball guy has got to be the most boring person to listen to. Personally I like the guy, but my gawd he has little to no energy and doesn't give the score out as often as I would like.GavinDonos wrote:Isn't this award basically just passed around between four or five different jobs? UM football guy, MSU football guy, Carroll football guy, Rocky Erickson... rinse, repeat...
He even said over the radio one time that Carroll football games are getting boring because they were kicking everyone's a$$ all the time (paraphrase). He sounds like he is in a constant yawn the whole game. Like I said, good guy but gesh.

I like Mick. He is a homer's homer. He has opposing teams saying he is too much of a homer, so he is probably doing a good job. The only problem I have is when he says "a gain of 4 on first down" and then a moment later says "griz at second and nine" I like a little more accuracy. Gurnsey on the other hand annoys me. He does not come across as a homer. He comes across as an arrogant condescending jerk. I liked it when Brad Solonen did the color.

Gurnsey kicks ass, just that fact that some of you hate his arrogance makes me like him a little more.
The only reason Mick won is he was the only one on the ballot.

I lived next door to Gurnsey for a few years just before I left for Florida. Truly one of the funniest neighbors you could have.AlphaGriz1 wrote:Gurnsey kicks ass, just that fact that some of you hate is arrogance makes me like him a little more.

Gurnsey is a little too much fun to drink with in Butte on St Paddy's Day.
He is a piece of work.

Gurns, holien, or jorgenson are great...as long as you don't expect the game to be related ACCURATELY....."great 4 yard gain for the fiz...we're now 2nd and 9 to go......"AlphaGriz1 wrote:Gurnsey kicks ass, just that fact that some of you hate is arrogance makes me like him a little more.

My favorite announcer is "color guy", Dan Davies. He's sort of a knock- off of one of those Chris Farley SNL interviews....
Announcer: "BOY, Daley really blasted that guy!!"
color guy: "yep, he sure did".
Announcer: That pass and catch just covered 57 yards!!!
color guy: "yep, hard to see how he got that open."
