Did Curry bail out the Griz?

I'm hearing the UM game with ISU was tied and UM called a timeout with .7 seconds to play and they didn't have one, but Eric Curry didn't acknowledge they called it, so no "T" on the Griz and the game goes to OT! Wow. Man, Chris Webber would've loved to have Curry around about a decade or so ago.

Anyone hear if this in fact happened? Incredible. Another chapter in Big Sky officiating history.

I watched the game and yes it did happen. Hasquet(sp?) got away with two things on that play. First, he pushed a guy out of his way after the rebound. He then called a Time out but the refs waved it off. They showed it three or four times on T.V. and the announcers were asking for someone to explane why there was no T.

And some people still don't know about Eric Curry.

Yes, Jordan Hasquet called a timeout with about one second left, but they didn't have one so it should have been a "T", sending ISU to the line to win it. Curry said that Jordan signaling for a timeout wasn't recognized by the officials before the time expired. Replay showed it was clearly called before time expired.

Yup it happened. Jordan called a timeout with like .9 seconds.. I think they even reviewed it too..

I watched the game also- terrible call by Curry, but what else is new. More than likely cost ISU a win.

Though Jordan was asking for the timeout I don't think the ref blew the whistle before the clock had expired, which is why there was no T. The replay they were showing was irrelevent, it didn't show the refs making the call or if a whistle was blown before the clock hit 0.

Either way the Griz are very lucky that a timeout was not called. The Griz dominated in ovetime however.

Check out ISU's account from the webpage:
After a timeout, ISU brought the ball up, and Matt Stucki's fade-away three was well short, and Hasquet grabbed the rebound with two ticks left. Hasquet then called for a timeout with 1.2 seconds left, and lead official Eric Curry signaled for the timeout with 0.4 left on the clock, and the clock then expired.

Curry pointed to Hasquet to grant the timeout, and Hasquet dropped his head, knowing his team did not have any timeouts. That should have put the Bengals on the free throw line with 0.4 left, except there was one problem ... the timeout was rescinded. Curry spoke with a pool reporter to explain the decision. "As the time was running down, the player called timeout. It is not when he calls timeout, it's the point of recognition. I recognized he called timeout, I blew my whistle, and it was instantaneous with the horn. In my judgment it's instantaneous. A play like that is not reviewable."

However, according to the 2008 NCAA Rule Book, that play is in fact reviewable. According to Rule 2, Section 13, Article 2, c-2, (page 57) officials can review a play to "determine whether a timing mistake has occurred in either starting or stopping the game clock.", and point c-3 say that officials can review a play to "Determine the correct time to be placed back on the game clock when the referee blows the whistle, signals for the game clock to be stopped, and in his/her judgment time has elapsed before the game clock stopped."

The review would have showed what a national television audience saw, which was the timeout being granted, and ISU would have gotten two free throws with 0.4 left. Interestingly, Montana would have kept the ball and had a chance to inbound for the win.

So what happens? ISU will appeal, the Big Sky will suspend Curry for the remainder of the season (2 games?), and another team is still screwed by these guys...

These guys not only don't know the rules, they don't even consult the rule book when they aren't sure. Isn't that what's know as making stuff up as you go?

You'll get a wonderful apology by the BSC and Fullerton. That will be about the extent of it. They are so ignorant as to how horrible Eric Curry is as a referee (by allowing him to still ref) that I would be surprised if he even gets a slap on the wrist.

Did Curry steal your girlfriend or something?

Eric Curry shouldn't be officiating intramural 8th grade ball........

and you're rapidly becoming a real pain in the a$$.

Man, there's a hell of a lot of freakin' whining on this board.

I watched/taped the game, and have replayed it many times. The TO was not recognized prior to the buzzer. Yes, the Griz got a break that it wasn't recognized a little earlier. I could also point out about 37 times in the games when ISU got the benefits of shi%%y calls. Welcome to the BSC. Shi%%y calls tends to even out during a ballgame. If you haven't learned that watching BSC BB I don't know what to tell you.

I'm buying stock in Kleenex you guys cry so much.

ISU's website is wrong. Even the TV guys said .7 to .8 ticks left, which is what I seen, too. And JH clearly called a timeout, why it wasn't reviewed is beyond me...

You guys never hear me bitch about officiating and I'll just say, "I'll keep my mouth shut on this Curry character".

This whole argument is the cat fans pissed at the Griz for getting a huge break, nothing more. I'll admit, it the tables were turned, I'd be pissed, too. (If ISU would have one on the same no call)

I'm out...

Did Bobby Hauck steal yours?

That call was very questionable. I would be pissed too. That is, if I was an ISU fan.

This was a close call but the Griz absolutely dominated in the closing minutes of regulation and outscored the Bengals 14-5 in OT. Enough said.

I didn't see the game so I can't comment on the accuracy of the call, but I am disappointed that Curry apparently does not care enough about his job to know what calls are and are not reviewable at the end of the game.

Anyway, the result of this game probably helps MSU's possibility of getting the 4th seed and hosting a first round game. If MSU and UM sweep next weekend and tie for 4th at 9-7, I think we get the tiebreaker with our win over 2nd/3rd place NAU.

Rapidly becoming a pain in the ass? He has always been a pain in the ass.

I was away from the T.V. today. The rapid thaw last week flooded my office, so I was putting it back together today. I didn't see the game and didn't record it so I can't comment on it. Ironically, it does seem to help out the cats in the standings. The unfortunate thing is that the griz may have stole one today, but given the state of officiating in the big sky, they will get screwed before all is said and done.

People are finally seeing the light on Eric MF Curry and why we can't stand the man. I personally look at every home game for this man so I can ridicule him. Eric Curry is OUT OF HIS MIND!
