Very fun read on Strange and Weird College Nicknames and Mascots. It's about a 10-15 minute read, but well worth it.
Post your favorites.
Mine is the Geoducks....mainly because I saw them play MSU in Bball this year.

Those are pretty good for colleges. One of my all time favorites is the Orofino 'Maniacs'- Orofino HS in Orofino , ID.
Orofino is the site of the state mental hospital.

If her fellow cheerleaders don't like her, I'd step in and give a lending hand to that fine young lady.

I've always said that if I was a male cheerleader, I'd have to be at Oregon State. At least that way, when I'm holding them up, I wouldn't get in trouble for saying what I'm really thinking (Go Beavers!).
Okay, I'll stop now.

I've got to go for the local Cobbers. I chuckle whenever I hear that name.
Them and the Spuds. I was sure the Spuds were some "offensive" name and had to change. But no, they've been the Moorhead Spuds for generations!!

They seriously use that hand sign? Even on TV? That is hilarious.

Oh yeah - been to one of their games. Their mascot is even named WuShock. Whenever they shoot freethrows, the entire student section puts up the Shock'em sign. Same for a made Three. It's sweet. If only all the old fogeys in the crowd knew what it meant....
And speaking of crowds, they put MSU to SHAME. WSU's Koch Arena is PACKED for every game, and it is LOUD, even though they are having a bad season (too many injuries). PJ Cousinard is fun to watch, though.
Back on topic, my favorite is also the Banana Slugs.
Jules: [Jules shoots the man on the couch] I'm sorry, did I break your concentration? I didn't mean to do that. Please, continue, you were saying something about best intentions. What's the matter? Oh, you were finished. Well then, allow me to retort. What does Marsellus Wallace look like?
Brett: What?
Jules: What country are you from?
Brett: What?
Jules: What ain't no country I ever heard of. They speak English in What?
Brett: What?
Jules: English, ******, do you speak it?
Brett: Yes.
Jules: Then you know what I'm sayin'!
Brett: Yes.
Jules: Describe what Marsellus Wallace looks like!
Brett: What?
Jules: Say what again. Say what again, ******, say what one more ***damn time!
