Since we are playing the Gophers this fall I thought some of you might be interested in the new stadium being built on campus. It will open one year too late for us (2009). It is an interesting virtual tour. On the same site you can check out their "signing social". Their way of showing off their new recruits. By the way, their recruiting class was rated 3rd in the Big Ten and 17th in the country. The good news is that this talent will either red shirt this year or be in only their second college game ever. We should do well. Click on the "virtual tour" of the stadium.

Wow!! Too bad we are missing that by one year. With a stadium like that the Gophers should be able to attract some real nice recruits and win a Big 10 title or two in the near future. Wonder if the Vikings will want to rent it.

How far along are they in the contruction process?

Early stages but they got most of the footings in before winter so they can work all year long.

Is it too early to start a Hottie thread?

They have a cheer squad devoted just to the hockey team!

On a more related note to the thread topic, am I the only who is getting sick and tired of the big corporate naming of all the stadiums? I suppose it's fine with pro stadiums, because it always has been and always will be about the almighty dollar. But I think college stadiums should stay away from the temptation. I prefer to see stadiums and arenas named after those individuals who have a personal connection to the school, whether it be a former athlete or founding father of the institution. But, we have moved in this corporate direction, and I am afraid that's how it is going to be.

If someone is going to pony up $35 million, I think they can name it whatever they want.

Wow. The Marching Band facilities alone are amazing ... let alone the facilities for the stadium itself. I think this will definitley elevate the Minnesota program in a huge way. Trying to compete while playing in the dome was definitely a huge disadvantage.

Damn, this is how marketing should be done. Talk about a great way to get your fan base excited.

And Minnesota is really amping up in the sports scene. The U got Tubby Smith as their basketball coach, the Vikings got Adrian Peterson, and the Twins, despite losing Johan and Torii, are building a really great new stadium themselves.

It looks like it is actually largely funded by public funds and bond financing. That would be nice.

Are they also playing NDSU in 2008?

Bowling Green, MSU, FAU????

And you guys called last year's Montana schedule soft. Wow. That's embarrassing for a Big 10 Team, even if they are horrible.

Its why I give the Cats about a 40% chance of taking that game. And considering its within driving distance and the Gophers almost never sell out the Dome, there's no reason for Cat fans not to go if you have the means. Even I'm considering it.

At least 40%. They had a weaker NC schedule last year and won one game (in OT) all year. They average about 30K in attendance. They had a great recruiting class but that should not have a big impact this year.

MSU can beat Minnesota. Average attendence last year for the Gophers was 51,800. Lowest attended game Miami(Ohio), highest attended game(sellout) North Dakota State.
