Griz Rumor Alert!
I heard an interesting story today from a Griz booster and has ins with the AD department in Missoula talking about Neuheisal (sp?) luring Hauck away to UCLA. There is nothing definate and this is just a rumor but I heard from two very reliable sources that talks have definately been going on for some time.

It would make sense for Hauck. Forget comparing salaries. Jumping from the Big Sky to Pac-10 is too big an opportunity to pass up. Just ask EW's ex-coach (can't think of his name). If it were a positional coach spot, I could maybe understand not making the jump. But if Hauck is the coordinator position, that is too rich for any sensible person in that profession to pass up.

I know for a fact that Hauck and Newy are very good friends. It would make sense for him to move (if offered) since the recent player indiscretions make his marketability on very shaky ground. Not to mention his less than stellar record in the post season. I would think success in a cordinator position at U.C.L.A would bring a head coaching job at that level quicker than staying the Griz coach.
I can see it now....
Rick: "Bobby, I've been meaing to ask you..."
Bobby: "YES!"
Rick: "But, you don't understa...."
Bobby: "The answers YES! And I'm already packed"

He might be about ready to go someplace where he can win games and get some credit and appreciation for it.
I'm not saying that he is unfairly maligned now, but it is undeniable that he is the most-criticized coach for his winning % in the country. It might be a nice change to be a part of the staff that is seen as the "saviors" as opposed to having everybody wonder if their team would be even better without him.
The UM job would be a tough one to have in many ways, and it seems like it's losing its luster as a road to the big league jobs. The lack of success by Dennehy and Glenn at the next level might be leading A.D.s to assume that successful coaches at UM are just results of the system as opposed to being successful on their own merits, and that could make getting a call-up for a head coach position really hard.
And then there is the criminal taint stuff, which certainly isn't helping his cause for a head job, right or wrong.

Re: Griz Rumor Alert!
I have talked with a handful of very well connected Griz Boosters since tricky Nick was first mentioned for the UCLA job. This "Bobby to leave to join Nick at UCLA " has been a common Fear / Hope rumor type thing for sometime. The consensus has always been that Bobby would consider it (again in these guy's opinion) only if it was a decent pay hike and a top assistant type thing. ie he most likely would not take a job as special teams coach. The most common thought has been he would move on if he was offered the defencive Coordinator / recruiting coordinator position. Again just the opinions of some old farts talking among themselves.ftg3485 wrote:I heard an interesting story today from a Griz booster and has ins with the AD department in Missoula talking about Neuheisal (sp?) luring Hauck away to UCLA. Well, if he goes to U.C.L.A it won't be as defensive coordinator. Walker will remain the DC under Neuheisel.

Not sure where you're getting your facts. But you've got it backward.canyoncat wrote:Walker was hired as UW DC. Would it be enough of a pay hike if Ricky made Bobby assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator?
