Portland State?

Okay, it seems like people are talking about portland state being over rated in several different posts, which I would agree with. Why are they a top 15 team in every poll? Obviously they got a good coach, but who are they returning for players? Who are the big talents on that team? Good offense? Good defense? Maybe I dont know enough about portland state, it seems like they are getting way to much respect though...
Could anyone tell me more about this team, and why they are ranked so high in every pre-season poll?

Here are some stars on the team.
QB Brian White 6-5 225 lb- Transfer from Colorado
RB Bobby McClintock 6-0 230 lb- Pre-Season all-American, Big Sky all Conference in 06'
WR Zach Tarver 6-5 215 lb- Transfer from Oregon State
SB Reggie Joseph 6-0 190 lb- Transfer from Colorado State
SB Tremayne Kirkland 5-11 170 lb- Star WR, Transfer from UNLV
WR Kenneth Mackins 6-0 180 lb- Only returning starter at WR, all others are now behind transfers
LB Andrew Schantz- Transfer from San Diego State, Prep All American in HS
LB Jordan Senn- Returning Leader at LB
SS Micheal Dorsey
FS Condrew Allen
More transfers are coming in according to Glanville, one highly regarded one from De La Salle HS so far. The talent is starting to come in.

Looks like a pretty solid group of transfers, but White? Didn't he get beat TWICE last year by the Bobcats?

Good athletes do not necessarily make a good team. And if all these guys are so highly touted.... why transfer? Are they disgruntled? Egomanics? Academic casualties? Running from something?

That is my guess. JG is there for one reason, and one reason only - to move up. That program is historically built on transfers and dropdowns, but Glanville will completely overload that program in more of these kids. First offer of money to move up, and Glanville is gone. My guess is he could care less about PSU and is only looking out for one person.
I honestly dont know why a high school kid would want to play there.

They better bring in some talent. What was the total yardage gained by PSU in Bozeman last year? Wasn't it like SEVEN yards in the second half or something as equally rediculous?

Yep thats why Glanville has landed 5 HS players from Texas and 3 from California before most schools even start recruiting. You are clueless.

Thats a pretty good looking list, I'll give ya that. However, they are going to have to do something on the field before I give them any real credit. I could be wrong on this one, he might be good this year, but I was not all that impressed with Brian White last year... I forgot, was he healthy all last year or did he have any injuries?

Well, one reason could be that PSU offers what no other Big Sky school can. The chance for a student-athlete to play ball and go to school in a diverse population that is literally downtown in the 22nd largest city in the nation. Or maybe not...

He transferred literally during the season and barely knew the offense when he almost led PSU past the Griz.
I'm not sure why people are bashing on the guy. PSU could be very, very good this season. Their lines are both as good as it gets in the Big Sky.

ok... sweet... But I wasn't talking sh*t or anything, it was an honest question? So maybe you could just answer the question. And for the record, I started this topic because I actually was curious about what players PSU will have this fall...

I'm not a PSU fan. I just know they return a lot of starters, a few who are incorrectly listed as new transfers on the list given by PSUfan.
The 'Cats barely got the play-off berth over PSU last season. If PSU didn't play three FBS games, I imagine they would have been in the playoffs over MSU.
In retrospect, both probably should have made it and the Big Sky should have had 3 teams.

Glanville can sell anything to anyone. Unless he's changed (and, actually, he has implied that he has had a life-changing moment), his track record of wins and losses has been sub-par. But, that was the NFL and this is college football. It's quite possible that his demeanor will fit perfectly at PSU. My only prediction for PSU is that if the wins don't come early, with all those transfers you are talking about, their season will implode due to no chemistry.
The second issue I see is implementing a run/shoot offense with 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust personnel. PSU might get a few transfers who fit into the run/shoot, but after a few games, those guys will be knicked up, and depth then becomes a problem.
All that said, I don't have a problem with PSU at 15-20 in any poll. It's pre-season and completely meaningless except for the top 8 or 10.

I would have picked PSU in the Top 15 even if Glanville hadn't come (in fact, that may be more of a distraction than a good thing). They have a lot of talent returning, and only their schedule prevented them from a playoff appearance last year. Until the UMass game, they were the best team I saw the Griz play last year, and that includes Southern Illinois and the cats.

Obviously depends on your perspective. We dominated PSU last year.

Goose Egg, if my memory serves me correctly! Wasent White sacked more times than passes completed?
Give credit to PSU for playing the Griz tough last year, but how many turnovers were there in that game for the griz?
