The 5:30 news announced that Cole will coach this year, and step down after the season is completed.

I've kept my perspective out of this Cole thing, but he'll accomplish his goal of coaching his son through high school. I think that's why the team is so polarized at this point.

OK, we all know Coach Cole is a little strict and has some very precise rules, also. But isn't the real problem here the parents? I mean, so what if your kid can't drink pop or have a gift bag on the bus? I understand that communication has never been Cole's forte. But honestly, how are kids going to succeed if their parents never let them experience any troubles? A bunch of these kids have minimal discipline, and where are they going to get because of it?

I'm sorry but that's complete BS. These "parents of spoiled kids" that you speak of, most have played sports in college and many are or have been coaches themselves that include college level. These are also parents who have had other children that played many other sports for other coaches and had no problems or issues with these coaches. Even the kids this year had no problems with their other coaches. Robin Slevig runs a tighter ship than Cole ever dreamed, and there is a reason the parent who has a player playing for each coach has the problem with Cole.

I don't have a horse in this race but I've watched Cole's program the last four years and my perception is that the problems are Coles creation and go way beyond team rules.

Again hear I go getting sucked into this discussion but can anyone tell me,

1. Does Coach Cole have any recommendations or mandates from the administration on working on what appears to be his lack of communication skills?

2. Has Coach Cole tried to meet with the athletes to work things out or with the parents to try to work their concerns out.

The article I read about his retaining his job is concerning if I were a younger players parent because all he seems to care about is coaching HIS kid next year and what I guess I would be concerned about is there a replacement on board that will work hard with the younger kids so they get what they need to be successful for years to come.

I do want to make clear that I think coach Cole deserves respect on this blog and i do think these kids deserve respect as well. I do not think that calling them undisciplined kids is really fair.

One final point I think that not all those who have ever played for coach Cole love him or hate him but all are entitled to their opinion.

Coach Cole has been given mandates, but so far he's refused to follow them. Last week's press release came out prematurely. The administration was going to tell Coach Cole he could keep his job if he was willing to do things differently. But the press release got out before Coach Cole agreed to those changes, and so far Coach Cole has not agreed to the changes.

So the majority of parents are still hoping that Coach Cole is not back next season. There's a handful of parents whose sons happen to be good buddies with Coach Cole's son who are hoping Coach Cole returns, but they're in the minority.

Cole Cole did meet with some juniors who have been most vocal about not wanting him back. But that was merely lip service. He never met with last season's angry and unhappy seniors who had their season's shattered by Coach Cole's abusive, bullying ways. Coach Cole has never met with any parents.

Coach Cole says over and over again that he wants one final year with his son. That would be at the expense of the entire team and program. Coach Cole has won his state titles, his son never has and his son never will with Coach Cole on the bench.

The reason Coach Cole's team next season will be unsuccessful is because too many of next year's seniors won't endure another season of watching him coach his son and his son's friends while ignoring everyone else. Coach Cole's final legacy will be a 5-15 season. With a different coach and a full crop of seniors, the team has a shot at being very, very good.

it seems to me that firemikecole might just be one of those my poor baby parents. Its people and parents like you that give high school sports it "too politcal" bad name.

If the kids don't want to play for Coach Cole, that leaves room for those who do. Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you handle it. [/b][/list][/list][/code][/quote]
