Here's where I guess I'm confused in this whole "the state appears pro-Johnson" thing that is supposed to lead to some remarkable book:
A) that the state of Montana assigned the prosecutor
Doesn't the State always assign a prosecutor to try felony cases?
B) that the state of Montana appears to have overruled Johnson's expulsion.
If one believes the rumors that the BOR overruled Johnson's expulsion, this would be accurate. But who else would do it?
Your argument seems to be something akin to, "the State built the road, and they also collected taxes to do that, so there must be something nefarious going on". Both of the things you said the State did which led to this supposed compromised situation are things that States are entrusted to do, and do as a course of regular business. That ain't a conspiracy. And it certainly isn't a book.
First, it's not my argument, it's my speculation on what angle Krakauer might take to make this a book people would want to read.
The part that Krakauer might find interesting is that the prosecutor assigned by the state was a season ticket holder, so it isn't interesting that the state assigned the prosecutor, it's that he's also a season ticket holder. (I could be wrong on this, because upon searching I can't find where I read that Duerk is a season ticket holder. If so, I'm admittedly all wet on that point).
Based on how you wrote it I'm not sure I understand your part B. Whatever the case Krakauer's petition says the university court found JJ guilty of rape and expelled him, but he was never expelled. Based on the article on the case the assumption being made by Krakauer is that since a student can appeal to the commissioner of higher ed and the BOR that JJ did just that and since he wasn't expelled it was one of those two bodies that reversed the order.
Krakauer wants to find out what happened to reverse the expulsion order, Meloy said Friday. He is seeking records concerning any action Commissioner Clayton Christian took in July or August 2012 after the university court's ruling.

Oh sweet Jesus grizgirl is back!!!!! Yeeeeessssssss!!!! Always missed ya. Let's get started.....
You really can't "agree" with me. I haven't posited a theory or hypothesis. There's nothing to really agree or disagree with. What you said doesn't make any sense at all.
"Sore loser"? That doesn't make sense either. Did I lose a bet? Did the Griz drop a recent game to one of cb's teams or something? What I did "lose"?
You aren't tracking well these days. You said he was stating what he thought happened when in reality he was giving his opinion on what would make a good story and I don't think anyone capable of forming complete sentences agrees with you. You're completely wrong and you can't handle it, so you're going on about it like that's going to change the fact that you're way off the mark on this one. It's not worth discussing beyond that, but as history has shown that won't faze you.
Go Dark Brandon!!

There's evidence in this thread there are others that agree with me. Perhaps you should learn to read before taking swings about forming complete sentences. And you can threaten all you want that you won't discuss it anymore. But we all know you'll be back. And I'm personally very excited about that!

This thread is a fun read. If we're keeping score, Tampa is winning BTW.
Why is a Griz fan the most rational poster in this thread on a Cat board? Jobu is a close second.
I just want to reiterate a thought that was found in another thread. BN can never make fun of eGriz again. Thanks CB for being the jokyo of BN.

Hardly. We'd need at least 100 more of these before we even start to approach that level.
Nice try, tho.

Nooooo! Please tell me there are not other cat fans besides Bracket and Grizgirl who believe in this wild conspiracy theory of a kangaroo court in the Johnson case. Seriously, we're better than that. Or so I thought....

I believe the most recent posts took exception to the idea that this place is even in the same planet as egriz. That's about as far as an overreach as you can possibly have in a sports forum. Believing that is 1000's of times worse than believing even the nuttiest of conspiracy theories.

Gotcha Darth. I missed the point of your post originally. I'm not always the smartest little doll. Perhaps I need more rum.

Some further info on this should be coming out soon. I see the deadline for Higher Ed to respond was March 26. However, it did take almost a month from when Krakauer/Meloy filed this for it to hit the newspapers.

Not tracking well...

I wholeheartedly agreed gg. Tampax has a history of being a drama queen and this time he's (she's?) taking it to extremes. The phrase "making mountains out of molehills" comes to mind...

Eric Curry

The latest:

Krakauer/Meloy weren't reached for comment, so probably more to come soon. I'm not sure this is something that would necessarily hurt the prospects of Krakauer writing a book. This article says that Krakauer is working on a book about how UM and the commissioner's office resolved the complaint against Johnson. Previously there had been no report of that being the case.

I guess I'm missing the mass commercial appeal of a book detailing minutia in an acquitted rape trial that took place at a small school in a flyover state. A passion project for Krakauer, or just one chapter of what will be a large look at how academic institutions handle cases of alleged sexual assault?

I think I remember that being reported in the Missoulian. Johnson had been effectively expelled by the student conduct court or whatever it's called. And a deal was made with Clay Christians that he could remain a student at UM as long as he maintained his innocence. Johnson was fully reinstated after his not guilty finding at trial. Had a guilty verdict come back, his expulsion would have become final.
That may not be 100% accurate and I may be remembering the details a little wrong, but I think the general gist is close to accurate.

A lot of stuff he writes about is like that, but the way he writes is riveting, IMO.

I don't remember just how it went either, but that sounds close. I think what Krakauer is trying to get has already been released, but it had redactions. ???

Below is a link to a Missoulian story about the campus court proceedings and JJ's suspension/expulsion or whatever it was. And the names of the parties were redacted in the summary as well. While I can't remember the timeline exactly, and if JJ was allowed to continue his studies after this judge's decision, I wonder if perhaps the judge's scathing criticism regarding the campus court's trial was a factor in allowing him to remain on campus. It may have scared them.
